The Pool Championship started an Saturday with 16 groups of 8 players around the world competing, a few of these being snooker players including Steve Davis, Jimmy White and Mark Williams and a few others.
The top 4 from each group qualify to the knockout stage, which started Wednesday. Only three of the snooker players made it through and these were Tony Drago from Malta, Steve Davis and Jimmy White.
The snooker players were given a tough draw. Drago got, arguably, the best player to come out of the Philippians, Francisco Bustamente. Steve Davis and Jimmy White were drawn together. Drago upset Bustamente by beating him 9-6. Steve Davis beat Jimmy White 9-2 in a particularly one sided affair.
The mixture of snooker players and various kinds of pool players have improved the quality of the competition. Steve Davis was the first snooker player to make the Quarter finals and is looking to go further this year. With the champion Fong Pang Chao out, a new champion will be crowned on Sunday.
If you have Sky Sports, give this event a watch because 9-ball is the best cue sport around.
Now we turn our attention to golf. Perhaps the greatest golf tournament of them all has started today. I took up golf about 4 years ago and I am not overly brilliant but I can beat my friends. When I watch the golf, I see very talented players earning thousands of pounds for playing a game, which I enjoy watching and playing.
Golf is a game for all ages and is played by many people. Some of the shots that the pros come out with are very special and deserve a good look. Tiger Woods is probably the most famous golfer at the moment but the unpredictability of golf gives us an interesting tournament.
If you play golf or are thinking of playing golf give this tournament a look because the variety of styles on show will certainly improve your game.
So, for anyone that is watching these events, who do you think will win and who do you personally want to win? Have you enjoyed watching them in the past? What is your pool or your golf game like?
