"U.K. park bench to get Net access"
THE SOFTWARE GIANT’S British web portal, MSN.co.uk, will place the techno-seat in Bury St Edmunds in south-east England.
(MSNBC is a Microsoft-NBC joint venture.)
Visitors to the city’s Abbey Gardens will be able to connect their laptops to the Internet for free through a connection on the bench, although MSN is still testing the best technologies to achieve this.
It says it hopes to have the net chair ready by August or September.
“The bench is a metaphor for the Internet slipping into every day usage - it’s as everyday as a park bench,” said an MSN spokesman.

3 days later, I can see "Microsoft searches for vandals responsible for destruction of web enabled park bench"..
What's the point? Presumably if you're just walking through the park with your laptop, you'll be able to stop at one end or another to use the internet anyway, either where you're going to, or where you've come from. -One- access point seems stupid, and I'm not sure where they're coming from with the metaphor..
Never mind spending the time/money on improving Windows (bsod while I was typing this..), no, these benches are so much more beneficial. How do you reboot a bench?
Microsoft seem to be losing it now...this coming on the back of their attempt to sue a charity that distributes refurbished computers to 3rd world communities for not paying for the Windows liscenses, and their descision to remove all Java support from WinXP..
