But is it? Just because something is small or has a handle, doesn't necessarily make it 'portable', does it? you could weld a handle to your desktop PC, but it doesn't become portable!
My definition of 'portable', especially where electronics is concerned, means that you can use it on the move. A mobile phone is portable, as are Gameboy and GBA. Gamecube may be small, but it's no more portable than a PS2 or the leviathan Xbox.
You still need to connect controllers to a Gamecube, not to mention a TV - so you can't use it while you're walking along the street, therefore it is not 'portable'.
The new PSone has also been described as 'portable', and I don't think that it is, either. Sure, there are now LCD screens and battery packs for it, but due to the controllers, you can't play it on the move. Not unless you have a car with a TV in it, anyway.
The only way to make a portable console is to built the screen and controller into the main unit. So, the only true portable console is a hand-held, and at the moment, you can only get those from Nintendo - though not in Gamecube flavour.

But the games DO matter! Why? I'll tell you...
If the game comes in a nice big box, you (well, Goatboy) can build a fort out of them.
The nice small DVD-style cases are extremely tough and sturdy - ideal for propping up that wonky table in the dining room.
And it's available in many, many colours.
I've finally realised that that is all that matters, not the games.
That's why posts aout handles and colours are so popular, and ones that I used to consider to be interesting are, in fact, of no worth whatsoever.
So, um, how many toes do you got?
