I used to play a lot of computer games and still do :) but over the years... mainly Atari to PS2 gaming era I have noticed something with the games and developers.

My main point I am trying to get across anyway is i think developers nowadays are more concerned with realistic looking wood grain on doors, and pretty patterns on chandeliers than actually paying much attention to how well the game plays. I've got to say long gone are the days that I have been 'addicted' to a computer game. Most of the time it will be, get a new game, have a quick go and say, ooh those graphics were nice and a pretty good buy I think this is. Then two weeks later you will see it on your shelf and think oh yeah forgot about that game, must put it on, and then refuse because really it was crap. Although I am generalising a little, as there has been some classic titles that do also have amasing graphics, the majority of stunningly beautiful games do not play very well. For example Black and White... great graphics and the like but boy that game got boring.

I think anyone could say that looking at the best games out there now that technology has reached a point where it could comfortably stay put for a while, and concentrate on making more of the of the old classic gameplay orientated games, just updating the graphics to make them more accesable. Don't get me wrong I am all for technological advances (not too sure on the nuclear reacters), but when it means buying a brand new PC every year, just so I can play a game of football without all of a sudden a great freeze happens, when I am about to score a goal in the Final of the World Cup (as Scotland :D).

Bring back games like Sensible Soccer etc !! If any fan of that game could honestly tell me they didn't cry when the 1998 version of this came out, with new and improved graphics, absoloute mince it was. Just think of the hours people used to spend playing on games like Sonic the Hegdehog and suchlike, these games are just very hard to come by nowadays. A good example of this being the majority of EA's games, whilst being the best sports game producers over recent years, just look at the fifa series. From the original in 1996 (well for 3D) I think it was, till 1998 every year got tonnes better, as one years game was almost re-written and played amazingly. Then you look at 1998 to the present 2001 effort. Graphically outstanding, but could you honestly say it plays the much different, all they seem to do is fiddle with graphics and update player stats. I myself hate the fact after 2 weeks of playing you can tell if you are going to score by hitting it at that place... you know what I mean.

I have to say one part of the graphics in games that I would love to see ironed out are the little jagged edges we see down the sides of mountains etc. 3DFX seemed to be the most interested in sorting this out with their anti-aliasing techniques, but sadly the company has paid for seemingly focusing so heavily on Glide technology, whereas all the rest of the cards simply overtook them. But nevermind, my card knowledge is not very vast so I wont go on about that before somebody corrects me on a little error.

I must say I am glad to see a game like Championship Manager up at the top in the games charts as this is nothing graphically, but it is so in depth, and addictive. Fair enough a decent PC is still needed for good performance, but I'll still be able to play the next incarnations of such a title hopefully in years to come on my current PC, which is getting closer to its dying day. I think most companies seem to need revenue for pouring so much money into producing these advances, I say don't bother, and charge half the price for your games !!

Right I am going to leave now, and I hope you'll all go and play Sensible Soccer or something just to remind you how class games used to be :)

and its the same for every good team, they need to live upto to ceratin standards, as games have to have a ceratin level in the quality of graphics. If the game falls below this level then the fans dismiss it as it being a quality title, even if it is a good game.

I suppose their are exceptions to this though, ie CM

Yeah but they don't have to be amzing, people don't go around complaining about them being poor.

What if they are against peole of their own standard, would you enjoy the match then, even if they are not so good at football??

Another straight port then. I have MI4 for the PC, and despite the switch to 3D, the graphics aren't that impressive either.

The game is cool though!

I agree. Today I rented Monkey Island 4, and for the PS2 the graphics are very disappointing. Another case of lazy developers, if you ask me. The game's fantastic though, and easily one of the best I've played in ages.

One question: How long does it last anyone?
