I only have one answer for that, of course it can. I've seen a lot of posts about how Gamecube will be the best and the Xbox will be the best, but they don't really look at the fuller picture. Of course, they are entitled to their own opinion, but it is stupid to rule out the other consoles, and also to start praising a console that isn't even out yet.
At the moment I am impressed with my PS2. Playing the likes of Onimusha and Red Faction, and soon, GT3, has been brilliant. And PS2 gaming is set to get even better, with tonnes of games revealed, most of which are looking stunning. But, are these games stunning enough to compete with those games for Gamecube and Xbox. More and more information is being released on these two hyped consoles, and I must admit, the games are looking mighty impressive, even at this early stage. But, to be honest, I am not wetting my pants with anticipation. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Nintendo or Microsoft, far from it, but for me it is way too early to jump up and say "the PS2 is set to fail when these two are released". And even closer to their release, I still probably wouldn't say it.
The PS2 is a great console, and I am pretty sure there a lot of people out there who agree, even Nintendo fans and Microsoft fans.
The future is very bright for the PS2 as a matter of fact. There is the online prospect, which is getting really hyped by the magazines. Maybe it is well justified. I mean the thought of a driving game where it is possible to but and trade cars online, and then using those cars to beat your mates online. The amount of options that will become available is phenomenal. It should be brilliant. Of course, the Xbox and Gamecube, will also have online compatibility, but it is how it is used that is the key.
Of course, there are the games. The line up for the PS2 is equally as impressive as the other two 128-bit consoles, if not more impressive. Before people start, I am not being biased, it's just that only a handful of games have been really shown off for either console. When more games are reveiled, then this opinion may be changed, but until then, it stays like this.
I could pick out every games that looks impressive for PS2, but that would take ages, so I shall just pick a few.
The first one I am going is Jak and Daxter (I bet everyone was expecting MGS2. Nope, that is always talked about, and besides, I think everyone knows how impressive it is anyway). Jak and Daxter looks fantastic. This could very well be the game that can take on the likes of Luigi's Mansion (just a speculation, before all you Ninty fans start to pick on me for saying this). There are those to famous beat em ups, Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken 4. Both look brilliant, and should certainly prove to be a great battle between the beat em up giants.
There are several more games that I could mention, but I won't because the list is endless, but let's just say that PS2 fans won't be disappointed.
I am not siding with Sony here, as I like Nintendo a lot and I respect Microsoft, I am just saying that the PS2 will make it tough for both Xbox and Gamecube. For all I know, these two consoles could knock the PS2 out for the count, but I find that doubtful at this moment. The PS2 is a great console and should be taken notice of, because you will be missing out a lot if you don't.

Well yes and no... for starters y
