I am away from home for 4 months in Spain. I am using a third party ISP broadband connection to send and receive e mail via Outlook.
I can receive mail but can't send out any mail. I get an error message.
I have followed the Freeola Help Desk's suggestions for my Outlook Pop3 and Smtp settings but to no avail.
Can anyone suggest anything else I can try?
Thanks.

We don't "specifically" advise to do this because it is not generally needed. And often causes more confusion than benefit, which we obviously try to avoid.

However I deal with a fair amount of "I can't send emails" per day, and this is often what resolves the issue in these cases. Some ISP's just block the use of port 25, some don't. Something we have no control over unfortunately.

The article I linked explains a bit. Although it is poorly written.

Thanks -
I'll stick with 25 (for 'my' clients who are on Freeola ADSL ) as it seems to be working but they haven't left the country yet!
though we have tested on a non-Freeola connection

FWIW The only Freeola docs on using Port 2025 I've managed to find are:
freeola.com/support/smtp-macmail.php
freeola.com/support/e-mail_iphone.php

Port 25 will work just fine. We use port 2025 as an alternative for a small minority of customers who are unable, incapable or otherwise find it impossible, to use port 25.

Yep I am - but only by reading the OP's comments :¬P

I might have misunderstood, but to me it sounds like he has spoken to the Freeola Help Desk (I'm assuming this means spoken to a human(!) rather than just read the support pages) and, to me, it sounds like he's normally a Freeola ADSL customer which means he gets free email freedom. More info

Please let me know if I've missed anything.

EDIT: I've just noticed your reference to using 'port 2025'. Can you please point me to the documentation for this? I'm supporting a Freeola customer who is just about to start using 'smtp-auth' for the first time while on a 3 month cruise so it's important I get this right and this is something I haven't read before!

Your assuming the customer has Email Freedom :D

First port of call is to see what outgoing mail server you are attempting to connect to.

If smtp.freeola.net then you will be unable to connect from a non-Freeola Internet connection, which you have stated you are doing.

If smtp-auth.freeola.net, please make sure that you have selected "My Outgoing Server requires Authentication" within the mail settings, and assure you change your outgoing port to 2025 (default is 25). This option is normally found in the "Advanced settings".

[i] Please note in order to use smtp-auth.freeola.net you will be required to have Email Freedom assigned to your account. More info

Hi and welcome to the forums!

I take it Freeola gave you the 'smtp-auth' instructions for using with email-freedom?

What errors are you getting?
