There are so many icons but the few that sticks in my mind are:
1) The explosion of the Death Star. God, it was such an important scene. The future hangs on Mr Skywalker pumping the target full of whipping, sizzing light thing. From the moment they announce the scenerio the tension builds and hangs at the pinnicle of movie magic. If there is any time in history where the audience is truely at the edge of their seat it's when Skywalker plunges to the silicon valley and aims with his fancy joystick. Then baddabing badda boom. Movie magic. Why do they make action movies? This is why. It was like a football macth when your team scores a goal. A rugby match where you team scores a try. n ice hockey match when the green light signals a goal for your team. Total hysteria. The audience leaps up and cheers. Skywalker scores.

The Dark Side: 0
George Lucas must have known that the exploding Death Star scene will remain in cinema history.
2) The fetus floating towards earth in Kubrick's 2001. Throughout the film the audience can only stare in wonderment as Kubick makes you watch space on acid. He pumps you full of visual creativity and the beauty of music that by the time you leave the cinema you don't know what to think. Is that big guy next to the vending machine going to batter you with a huge bone? Is the PC going to go haywire and lock you in you garden?
The film is near perfection and what a brilliant way to finish of the one of the greatest achievements ever made in movie history. Like the rest of the film it's visually spectacular, seeing the grand ferus floating towards Earth is mind blowing. What!?!?!?! What's happening? All this accomanied with the chilling and thunderous music it's just... WOW.The whole film is full of icons but this one stands out alone.
3) It's not a moment is a film but it's a poster to Godfather. It's simply the one with cotton mouth Brando stearing down at Pacino. The fact that it reminds you of the film is enough to make it an icon. The film itself is an icon being considered one of the greatest films ever.
4) De Niro as Travis Bickle pointing his gun against the mirror. You know what's next. Nuff said. Plus I'm too lazy...
5) The Psycho shower scene with Janet Leigh screaming as she turns around. The ascene is infamous and so when known and so well made. There's about 100 intrigately placed edits and you kdon't see any stabbings. It goes to show, a good director can do anbything whithout showing anything.
6)Casablanca. Boggie staring into Ingrid Burgman's eyes. Simply timeless. Memorable and memorized for ever.
7) Dr Stranglove. Simply the whole film. Peter Sellers ith his Nazi salute, Major T.J. "King" Kong riding the bomb. The film's so great many of it's icons have been replicated in Simpson epidsodes. Remember when Homer was in the submerine and fired the general out. Well that'sthe scene from Dr Strangelove.
Well it's late and I'm tired. Finish this off for me folks ther's so many...
