And I don’t mean this as an anti-recreational drug post, by any means...
Last year, my flatmates went on a girl’s night out...
They to this dodgy 'spotters' club, which had posters on the wall warning women not to put their drinks down or leaving them unattended.
Now, being the naive chap I am, when they were telling me about it later that night (earlier that morning?), I didn’t have a clue what it meant... Although, as I subsequently found out, it referred to blokes sticking 'date rape' drugs into their drinks...
Which is apparently it quite a popular activity in certain places, for many guys on their night out...
Which, to be honest freaked me out... The whole thing confuses me...
How does it occur that this choice of action is being undertaken at its current scale?
Has it always been this way, with the means only just becoming available?
Or is this a new social development?
I understand that it has been an enormous problem in parts of America for some time now, (although I don’t know any details?)
Does anyone else have any ideas?
(I did type out quite a bit here... but I've killed most of it off, partly because I was starting to wander from the subject, but mainly because, after re-reading it I seemed to be trivialising, so I'm hoping someone who knows more than I can fill in the blanks?)
Slip it in a drink, and it causes blackouts.
Basically the effects of a sedative.
I've read about this and find it abhorrent that someone would want to do this.
A woman wakes the next day with no idea of what happened, and it's almost impossible to prove anything happened because of the lack of evidence.
There is the physical evidence of sexual activity, but if the victim is unable to say "I said no", it's basically one person's word against the other.
Very dodgy stuff indeed.
