Well, who is your favourite actor? Mine is undoubtedly Tom Hanks. The films that he has starred in and I have watched must be in double figures and I can honestly say that none of them have been poor. Every single one of them has appealed to me, either a great plot or a superb cast. Is it just luck on Tom Hanks’ behalf that he never seems to get a bad plot? Or are the films a success because no matter what the role, Hanks seems to act out the part so convincingly. If you think it is luck, it’s one hell of a coincidence.

The first film that I ever saw which starred Hanks was Big. I only saw this when I was a little nipper, but the memory of the film will also stay with me. For those of you who have not seen this, Hanks plays the role of an eight-year-old boy who has wished to be older, and you guessed it, the wish comes true. Now normally, for a film to appeal to me, I need a good plot, but due to my young age and general naivety, I was able to see the film the way it was meant to be viewed. The film is so under-rated and completely over looked by the majority of people for some unknown reason. I can never fathom why I have never seen this film in someone’s ‘top ten films of all time’ because it definitely appears in mine. Although I was only eight when I first watched this film, I could establish and recognise the great performance that Hanks gave.

Along with Big, the Burbs is also somewhat unknown. Now I don’t know if any of you have seen this film, but if you have I’m sure you feel the same way as I do. This film blew me away the first time I saw it and continues to every time I watch it. The plot, performances and humour are all rolled up together to create one of Hanks’ best films of all time. Hanks plays the role of Ray Peterson, an ordinary person living in suburbia. He lives an ordinary life, but this is going to be changed for ever after the Klopeks move in next door. Now, I don’t want to discuss the plot and what happens in case someone reads what I think about this film and will consider watching it, but if you do consider watching this film, my advice is WATCH THIS FILM! You will not regret it!

Now, to discuss all of the films he has appeared in would take ages, but some of the better-known films he has starred in are Saving Private Ryan and The Green Mile. Now I don’t know about you but these two films are completely different with only a few things in common and these are, great acting, great plots and…well…great everything. I am sure you have seen these films and for all of you people who haven’t, I genuinely feel sorry for you because you have missed two of the greatest films of all time.

Saving Private Ryan is based in the Second World War and more specifically on D-Day. One of the first scenes is one of the most famous and moving of all time, the landing on Omaha Beach. If you haven’t seen this film, you must have heard about this. It is said by many to be the most realistic scene of all life and when it is based on the largest aquatic assault of all time, it must be something special. On its own it is gruesome, moving and horrific but when you see the special features on the DVD version of the making of it, and you see war veterans saying how realistic it is, it makes you think, ‘how could something be this bad?’ I have always respected war veterans but after this I have a new found respect for them, to endure that and not go clinically insane is astounding.

Once again, if you have not seen this film, then I completely recommend you getting a hold of a copy or, I think it is still being shown on one of the Sky Movie channels.

Now, The Green Mile. Words cannot describe how much this film moved me, I heard someone say that this is one of the films he/she had ever cried at and I take no shame in saying that I cried as well. It is so emotional, you really feel like jumping into the screen and stopping everything, that’s how good the film actually is. Once again, Hanks gives a great performance and is surrounded by an all-star cast who make the film a masterpiece. The plot is gripping and if anyone says that the films drags on a bit, I say…well I won’t even dignify this with an answer. Normally I feel that everyone has their own opinion but I feel that if someone was to make this statement, they either a) haven’t even seen the film or b) have the attention span of a fish.

All the films that I have mentioned and many more that I have not I could sincerely call masterpieces. Is it just a coincidence that Tom Hanks stars in them all, or is it him who takes these films to the next level, I think Tom Hanks gives these films an extra addition which makes them appear in my eyes as masterpieces. What do you think, luck on Tom Hanks’ part or do you think that Hanks is a superb actor?

My favourite actor would have to be Nicolas Cage. He is by far the best actor in the world. He has had the most successful career ever, for an actor of his high ability. He has achieved so much when he is still a young man, he has appeared in all my favourite movies so far.

Starting with 'The Rock' this is possibly my favourite movie so far, not because it stars Nicolas Cage, but because it is the best action film I have seen in my life. Cage and Connery worked their hardest to achieve their highest ability in acting for this movie. This was the big boost in Cage's acting career, because of this movie he began to appear in more action movies such as 'Face Off'.

With 'Face Off' Nicolas Cage was able to compare his acting skills with John Travolta, when you watch the movie you notice that they both try as hard as they can. This is not unusual for the famous actors and actresses, in order for them to be so successful and famous, they need to work at their highest ability all the way through the beginning of their careers.

Cage's latest success 'Gone in 60 seconds', has given Cage the success he has always wanted. He has worked to the highest of his ability for his whole career, and accomplishing this movie has shown him self how big a celebrity he is.

All this about Nicolas Cage has brought me to the point of knowing (not THINKING) that Nicolas Cage is the world’s most successful actor ever.

I loved the Green Mile so much! I recently bought it in Tescos becuase I just wanted to watch it again, it really is one of the best films I've ever seen, and all most one of the most moving.

Anyway, favourite actor? Tom Hanks!

Nearly every single film he's been in I have enjoyed greatly, he really can make a good film great.

Tom Hanks for Apollo 13, castaway and Saving Private Ryan, and to be fair my favourite actress is Sandra Bullock for 28 Days, Practical Magic and the Speed films.
