Another amazing jail drama for the 21st century. This truly amazing film was nominated for seven Academy Awards back in 1994, including best film and best actor. I agree that this film deserved best film and best actor. Tim Robbins also starring in Jacobs Ladder was the perfect actor for the role of Andy Dufresne. He shows the difficulty of living in prison, especially when you are an innocent man. The film is based on a short story by Stephen King.

He was charged for two brutal murders, and received two life sentences. Andy enters the prison as a loner, with no friends but him self. People look at Andy and never see a look of worry in his face ever. After weeks of being alone and not talking to anybody, he walks over to another cellmate called Red (Morgan Freeman), Red is a man with connections who can get just about anything if you have the money. Andy says to Red ‘ I understand you’re a man who can get many things’. Red seems surprised that he was the first person Andy spoke to. Andy and Red bond a close relation ship and Andy becomes popular with the prison warden and guards. Andy still tries to help people using his banking experience. This surprised me, because I thought Andy just liked to walk around acting like a free man. I thought that more work for the man to do would drive him insane. Andy has a hobby of rock collecting and byes a rock hammer tool of Red. In the film Andy gets into bits of trouble. He is constantly protecting him self from gay inmates and from being attacked in the showers. He helps one of the guards with financial problems, and the prison guard makes sure Andy is not attacked again, by disabling the main person attacking Andy. The story moves on showing how and gets more popular and towards the end of the film there is an amazing plot that Andy has made in prison since day one. At the very beginning of the film when Andy has only been in the prison for a few weeks, and carves his name in the wall with his rock tool. He byes a big poster of a female movie stars to cover up the hole in his cell wall. At the very end of the film Andy decides to make his escape with the prison wardens bank records. Andy waits till it is dark and then makes his escape. The prison guards don’t find out till the next morning when Andy is long gone. Andy now a free man goes to the bank and gets thousands of dollars dressing up smart and pretending he was the prison warden. Andy moves to another country where Red who received a letter from Andy just before he left later joins him.

I saw both of the films for the first time within a week of each other and i thought both of them were amazing.
Shawshank Redemption i believe is the better of the two, but not by much, only because it was done first.
But Green Mile was also good, but the sometimes the storyline just went a bit off its head and was unbelieveable.
