What's the point of releasing Voodoo 4 and 5 when most games in this world don't take advantage of Voodoo 2 features? All the new features and the increased power/speed is great, but you can't physically see the difference past about 40 fps anyway, so what difference does it make if you've got a frame rate of 40 or 80 in Half-Life?
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for improving PC's, but the point is at what cost. People can't afford to keep up with the technology, and the software doesn't support it, so when you buy a new PC, you'll have to pay an extra £100 for a Voodoo 5 card over a Voodoo 3, when there's no difference in the gameplay (which is far more important than graphics anyway - just see the Championship Manager series for proof)
The point is that people are releasing "new improved cards" with very little improvements over the old ones, and charging full retail price for them. Remember back to the days of the Mega Drive, Sega released all the improvements such as the Mega CD, and so on, but they all failed, because they cost so much, yet represented a small improvement, yet when the improvements were all put together in the Saturn (along with some others) it was actually quite successfull (for a while).
