Hollywood films that are released abroad and in those territories where these movies are dubbed:

Does the same actor always dub one particular Hollywood actor?

Is it the same bloke that does all Mel Gibson movies for example?

Bad enough with dubbing, but I'd be confused even more if each time Mel had a different voice.

Having watched enough Spanish dubbed movies, I can confirm that the big actors have got 'voice doubles' in Spain at least. In fact, the actors become quite big sometimes in cult circles.

The best voices though are the TV ones, such as Homer from the Simpsons. The first time I heard him in Spanish I fell about laughing, it was so unexpected! It was like: "mmmm. buñuelos, dulce....d'oh!" It was the D'oh at the end that threw me.

My wife once commented that Michael Knight from Knight Rider had the 'wrong' voice in English, as she was so used to the Spanish dubbed voice. I thought about this and it's true, you grow up with a TV show, getting used to one voice, and then to come to another country and hear a completely different voice is weird, even if it is the original voice of the actor!

That would be very bad, but dubbing, even if by the same guy for an actor in every film, is always very bad. Like Hitman, the dubbing is pathetic. Subtitles are the best way. But I've no idea how you would go about finding out.

Definately, but what I want to know is if the same voice actor does all the dubbing for one particular star and all their movies?

Say Mr Smith dubs Mel Gibson in Braveheart, does Mr Smith dub all of Gibon's movies?

A different voice for each film would be offputting

Depends on what you like. I watched Crouching Tiger, and I could definately say that I prefer subtitles to dubbing. But if the dubbing provides a comedy element, it is quite good. i.e. Monkey series in 70's/80's.
