Yes DVD-RW's do work in the Xbox dvd-rom.
Exactly - it could have been trading standards on teh phone.
He's not going to publicly say 'oh yeah, play your copied DVD on there, fine, we implicitly endorse such acts, of course!'
If your disk drive has 2 holes in then they will play.
