Right, you have all heard of Lara Croft and her Tomb Raider games. We all know how successful they have been. And we have all heard the comparisons drwan to the Indy theme, but we all still new a film had to come out of this success. Fortunately, Holywood decided to take on the task, so at least it wasn't left to some little British company with no money to back up what the film really needs in an action film; special effects.

The special effects have to be dealt with first because they are really good. The first time you notice how good they are is when Lara fights the training robot at the beginning, you really can believe that she is fighting a robot. There isn't anything here which will make you sit up and say, wow, how'd they do that, but nothing is used excessivly or out of place, so it gives a more genuine feel to the film, compared to some other big special effects blockbusters.

The story line fits in rather well to the Tomb Raider universe. The story may be a bit short to be translated into a game, but with a little padding, I sure it would have made a decent Tomb Raider game. That's where the crunch comes with this film. If you enjoy Tomb Raider games, you will enjoy this film. If you don't then stay well away. I'm not one for giving the plot away before people have seen the film, so I wont go any further on this, but it does have a decent plot which at least makes a tomb raider film less pointless. Whether Core/Eidos will be happy is another thing.

When it comes to the acting, well, Jolie, as expected, is very good. Sassy, sexy and enjoying the power she has over men, especially when wearing tight shorts and a padded bra. The English accent, is, well, not too bad. Better than some of the Englishmen's accents anyway, but I couldn't help but feel that they were forcing the situation a little. Their isn't an abundence of talent on show but for what is availabe, they do quite well. They may be handicapped by a natural deficiency and shallowness, and that does take away quite a bit from the film. Maybe a Pierce Brosnan was out of the budget a little, but that's what this film missed, a quality baddie. What we got was really quite limp.

The sound, as with any blockbuster these days was phenominal. Not a soundtrack I could sit and listen to on CD, but fitted well into the scenes and set a rcy atmosphere. Some parts of the film depended to heavily on music to set the tone, probably because the bad guys just seemed so weak, but Jolie saved the day on many occasions. The script was fairly biased towards Lara looking the most intelligent person on the planet, only being surpassed by her mentor, and againm this could have led to the poor showing from the forces of evil.

Taking everything into account, it could have been better. But it could also have been much worse. Appropriate special effects, a good, fitting soundtrack and Angelina Jolie all made this a film worth seeing if yo have nothing better to do, or some sort of cinema pass. But the bad guys were just so weak, they made it look as though I could have got up and beat them to everything.

Enjoyable, care-free, if somewhat bland Holywood boackbuster. But what else did you expect?

Yep,agree with you on the last bit.In fact,is it just me or did the main bad dude remind anyone else of Pierce Brosnan?
I thought the sound track was well done as well.I thought a bit of classical music might have added a bit of a twist to Lara's personality, considering what background she comes from, and the fact that she lives in a mansion.
The story line was dodgy enough to be in a bond film, and I couldnt stop myself from comparing it to that, either.
More use of that training robot,Simon, might have been nice, too.
And do you think a girl of her age, looks and breasts would be living with just a weird gadget-dude and a suave butler?
D'you reckon she was missing a boyfriend?(ahh)
