I know many of you are looking forward to DMC - but did you know that Capcom have changed the style of gameplay?

Capcom changes Devil May Cry gameplay

Capcom significantly tweaks the gameplay options in Devil May Cry and pins down a Japanese release date.

Though the demo version of Devil May Cry, which was included in Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, created considerable buzz, Capcom recently made several changes to the Devil May Cry gameplay system. As opposed to the format used in Capcom's Resident Evil and Onimusha, where players can roam around different areas in one giant map, Devil May Cry will now be mission-based.

In the demo build of Devil May Cry, eliminating enemies rewarded the player with red orbs, which could be used to unlock doors and move on to the next area. In the final game, players will instead gain experience points. The method and style in which the player kills each monster is a factor in how many points the player gains. These points can then be used to acquire new moves for Dante, as well as purchase items at the beginning of each mission.

Devil May Cry for the PlayStation 2 is scheduled for release on August 23 in Japan for a price of 6,800 yen. A specific North American release date has not been announced at this time.

I was worried at first in case they'd spoiled it, but this actually sounds better to me - what do you think?

That's certainly possible.

The bit about collecting red orbs to open doors and so on sounds slightly like Onimusha. Collecting souls (most of the red) to (uprgrade you weapon) and open doors. Maybe they are trying to make the two games less a like!?!

7th December? That's a long way off, so I wouldn't take it as final.

Then again, it's that far off that they should be able to achieve it! :-)
