Wanna bet? The American Humane Association (AHA) has representatives on set at many of the films (but not all) made in the US. The reps don't just sit there and watch, they also investigate the care and treatment of the animal actors both on and off the set, often in partnership with other animal welfare organisations in some states.

Here are some films that didn't quite make the grade:

Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco, three fish died during transportation, and no fish trainer was present. A Disney film, no less.

Lord of the Flies, a puffer fish was actually killed during the filming (Columbia Pictures).

The Abyss, a rat is subjected to anxiety by being submerged in oxygenated liquid. (20th Century Fox).

There are absolutely 100s of films that didn't make the grade, if you want more information on this visit the AHA website, you can find the link in most search engines.

Other 'notables' include First Blood, Conan the Barbarian, Problem Child and many others.

So next time you see "No Animals Were Harmed During the Making of this Film", fine, you know for sure that the AHA were present.

But next time you DON'T see that phrase, think carefully about what you have been viewing, and then wonder whether or not it was justified for your entertainment.

Are you trying to be funny or are you trying to raise the series subject of animal cruelty? As it is probably the former then I shall remind you that animal cruelty IS a series subject whether or not it just goldfish dying during movie production.

Cruelty to fish?? Films with scenes BLATANTLY exhibiting on this theme:
1) Head baddie being p**sed off in Total Recall - what became of the real life goldfish from that scene?
2) All the Jaws films

Ha, thats quite a good way to look at it actually. "No but that fish would have died anyway. It doesn't matter that we dropped it in acid."

Well obviously if they didn't say that then people would get upset. Its obvious that they lied. Anyway animals like fish only have a short lifespan so may have died anyway.
