As it has become increasingly eveident that games producer work on a series of tried and tested ideas rather than going on a wild new mission of trying to distungish what other ideas work for the consumer.

And since games are succesful because the either help to develop or identify with a certain feeling/genre/activity.

Then i just had an idea that perhaps games are becoming more human. Not in the sense that they stand up and talk to you in the street, but that they display almost human characteristics.

Although i thought this was a bizarre idea at first, after much dileberating i think that in away it does make a whouls lot of sense.

Whether or not you feel that games are becoming more human or not is dependant on your own opinion but i felt it was an interesting idea, and worthy of a note during these hard times.

Games are moving steadily towards cinema. In the days of Streets of rage, the story was there, but it was mainly a beatemup. Now look at ZOE. FMV everywhere, storylines that try to move you, and draw you in. Its just as vital for a game to have a plot as it is to have a game

I noticed this the other night playing Onimusha.

At one point in the game, you fight an evil demon version of yourself. This evil twin emerges from a cave during a cut-scene (*not* an FMV sequence) - at first you think it's your character, but then you notice a distinct 'evil glare' look in the eyes.

Simple, but effective - and with the main character being made up from 10,000 polys, probably an effect which was unobtainable on previous generations of console.

Simple things like improved graphics have also helped to make games more on a human level.

Simply seeing the look on a characters face can invoke all sorts of emotions, that couldn't previously done because the graphics weren't good enough to show emotions in anything but the cut scenes.

I think that because of advancement in game development, better storylines, and character representation in games, that yes, you tend to 'bond' more with games and become more involved with them than you used to.

Plus recent technological marvels like the 'emotion engine' in the PS2 allow developers to more easily get what they are trying to say across to the gamers, so the new consoles have enabled a better communication platform than has previously been attainable.
