Snow finally blankets the Alps

2007 to be 'warmest on record'

Is this normal? Should we be worried about all this? It's like the movie 'Day After Tomorrow', except it's not happening in weeks it's happening over years and not 1000s of years like it should.

It seems to be happening everywhere though, extreme weather, even Singapore is getting more rain than it has for awhile.

So are things really going to get worse? Are we going to have an even hotter summer this year? Sure, that would be great and I bet the tourists would love it, but not if it means changing our climate and harming the wildlife.

Are we doing enough to prevent global warming? America along with China are the biggest contributors to global warming, right? What is George Bush's opinion on it? I'm not sure but I think I read somewhere that he feels this is all natural and part a cycle, so eventually the temperatures will go down.

I remember talking to Kawada awhile ago that we didnt have Florida in the news last summer. Where were all the hurricanes? I hope they werent saving up for this year because I might be in Florida around the summer time. :(

So yeah, a global warming debate. Are you worried about all this? How would you feel about the UK getting warmer and the chances of snow at Christmas even more unlikely. Do you think the Government is doing enough? Do you think the Americans are doing enough? Or is it too late, as I heard one expert say, let's go find a new planet to screw up.

Woooo.

I recall back in July when we were in the middle of a lengthy heat wave that we were warned that another heatwave - of equal if not greater magnitude - was on its way in August.

The entire month of August was miserable, overcast, and unseasonally cool.

So forgive me if I put no faith in a 12 month forecast when they can get next week's weather even half right.

I must admit I'm not that convinced by the science behind global warming. Yet that doesnt mean its something we should ignore. On a global level there doesnt seem to be any good answers (yet). And pointing fingers at america isnt any help at all.

It'll take at least 20 years to change the climate if we do something right away. All this means is that we DO need to do something right away.

Every country needs to do something and scientists need to think long and hard about ways we can improve the ecological stability of the planet, while still being able to do the things we do now, such as providing transport and technology that is eco-friendly.

In the meantime, we need to drive less (working from home is a good way of doing this), share lifts, recycle more, use less electricity and gas. It's hard to do, which means some people won't do it. Somehow the message needs to get through to people, and the only way to do that is either through laws or fines or raising the cost of things we shouldn't be doing and lowering the cost of stuff we should.

The government needs a slap for public transport being able to raise their prices and they need to start getting the transport system sorted out, though. They also need to get councils in gear to provide a far easier recycling scheme than we currently have. I mean, a small green box holds hardly anything and they only pick up once a fortnight...
