Listen people, you are all wrong (especially you, SonicRav, I am getting increasingly annoyed). The true reason why the X-Box is so big is because, in Microsofts view, a bigger, heftier console symbolises greater power, as stated at a press conference by the man himself.
And whoever argued with the guy who went on about cooling, I agree with you sort of. The Box doesn't need more interior space to stay cool. As long as the air is directed out of the console, the thing should last at least a week before melting and ruining your carpet.
Do you see?

I don't think the Japanese are going to warm to it.

Actually another thing is that when ms questioned DC and PS2 owners they found that they were annoyed by the noise the machines made (well, my DC going woosh, woosh in the middle of res evil is annoying!)... so they packed xbox with loads of noice proofing..

But then the heat will be stored in the box won't it? There isn't any extra "holes" for the heat to escape from, sowould make it even hotter, making it even more likely to blow.

Or something.

Im just curious as to what you can and cannot replace in the Xbox, will the Ram be upgradeable like a PC??? Will the HardDrive be able to be replaced easily to????

So many questions :-)

Nobby, the XBox is so big to allow adequate cooling of the processor.

You ever looked inside a PC? It's the same, loads of room considering whats in there. It's all done to help air flow and keep the CPU cool so it doesn't blow.

If i remember rightly, the PS2s chip runs at around 300MHz or maybe less, the XBoxs chip will run at 733MHz.

You would have thought that they could have made it smaller, yes. I mean, it hasn't got anything in it that PS2 hasn't has it?

Hard Drive? PS2 has a slot for a 40GB HDD XBox's is only 8 GB

Modem? PS2's Network Adapter is only 2cm thick and is hardly noticable.

I don't understand why it is so god damn big!! I'd like to see what's inside the X Box that is taking up all the space.

Obviously not - they want no other space for other consoles - their's will take up the most space in shops, making every thing else crampt up!
