In Tenerife there were lots of market stalls selling to put it bluntly, about everything. You who have been there would know that you can haggle the price down - negociate with the trader. Thats all brilliant. My dad makes the most of this opportunity and really gets the most for his money. Nothing unusual there.

Yesterday we went into Curry's in search of a new Hi-Fi. We noticed a model on the shelves, which was already on sale. My dad called a woman over to explain the features to him. Afterwards he decided he'd buy it, they only had one left, which was in 95% top condition, purely because of the fact it was ageing. And here it comes. He haggled the woman to try and get a lower price. Everybody knows you can't haggle a proper big shop like Curry's, it was so embarrassing - my dad was haggling in front of loads of people.

But here's the ironic thing. The woman went and got the store manager, and then my dad haggled him too! Oh my god! Dad explained why he wanted a lower price, and guess what, the manager accepted and sliced £30.00 of the price! It was brill, though embarrassing.

We bought the Hi-fi, which is working perfectly, and now I have £30.00 left over to spend on whatever I want!

Who would have known? You can haggle in big well-known 'fixed' prices after all....

I would advise most of you to try haggling when you buy something that is expensive, ie a new console or stereo, car. I managed to get free minidisks, a stand, good headphones because I paid with cash when I bought my stereo. if you don't try then they won't give you it.

When I bought my stereo the shop, Comet, was giving away a free watch with it (the watch was just a cheap plastic one) but I asked if I could have a discount if I didn't have the free gift. The shop assistant knocked 20 quid off the price! The manager realised what he had done when I went to pay but by then it was too late. I feel a bit guilty because the stupid shop assistant probably lost his job.

As I've said before, parents are the new rock and roll.

Oh, and can you send round him here to the BMW dealership please?
