Played the Barbarian myself and managed to raise him to level 78 in six months with out any cheats (servers were rife with cracked characters for a while). The necromancer became the strongest character at the higher levels.

Aye, as much fun as Final Fantasy is I did prefer Diablo 2. Less cheese, more action.
