I`m not saying everybody should get a bike licence and dive straight onto a Ducati 996. I have had my bike licence for 5 years and passed it on a modest 125, then got a 400 now have a CBR 600 which, as far as I know (ahem) will do 150mph. It also returns 40mpg whatever I do (sorry officer I thought you wanted a race) and costs me (a 36 year old self employed odd job man) less than £100 per year to insure 3rd party. Traffic jams? Straight down the middle. Parking? On the curb as long as it does NOT obstruct pedestrians (including pushchairs and wheelchairs) then there can be no arguments from he who wears the yellow striped hat... I dont condone the placing of the left hand over your number plate as you pass through a speed camera (but you can reach it on whatever bike you ride.... so I`ve been told...) and chicks love bikes. More accurately, chicks love blokes in leather. According to my wife.
Think once, think twice, think about trying a bike. We are not all hoodlums out to scare every motorist witless, we just take the opportunity to overtake all cars as and when we feel safe to do so. Unless we have a Ducati 996.....
I bought a full wet weather suit for less than £20. The only problem is the rain always seems to seep into the most embarrasing places... Not that! Well, close enough. Imagine you are on a bike in the rain. How do you sit? Correct, you are almost sitting in a chair and if someone dumps a large bucket of water on your head where does it end up? In your lap! So unless you have a Supermarket carrier bag stuffed into your gusset you are going to have an embarrising stain around the "equator". The next problem is your neck. It gets in there too, so best shove a carrier bag in there too!
Apart from that you can still enjoy a bike just watch the white lines as wet paint is quite slippery.........
The music thing is easy to get round, just get a walkman with a decent set of head phones and it can sound just as good as a car stereo.
IT's the bloody enlish weather that i'm worried about! It rains. All the time!
The leathers are certainly a plus though.......
I drive a Honda Integra Type R which in my mind is one of the best value performance cars you can get hold of. 0-60 in 6 seconds top speed of 145mph, Limiting Slip Differential and 180bhp from a 1.8L VTEC DOHC. Front and rear torsion bars, sports ABS, I paid £15,000 for a two and a half year old car that has the same performance as a Porsche Boxster which cost over double that price.
Unfortunately it’s group 18 insurance, I’m 28 with full no claims bonus and it still costs me £1300 pa to insure my car. I didn't realise that bike insurance is THAT cheap.
Bike riders get a bit of a bum rap though, there are plenty of idiot Nova drivers with cherry bomb exhausts that cause far more problems on the road than a careful biker.
You can wear full leathers in a car as well, or is that just me…..
