Adapted by David Mamet fmo his own stage play, this is one of the outstanding films of...well...ever.
It is a total acting masterclass, pure talent doing nothing but chewing scenery like their lives depended on it.
Cast?

Al Pacino - Shouty and tanned
Kevin Spacey - Smug and self-contained
Jack Lemmon - nervous and bitter
Alan Arkin - Annoying as hell
Alec Baldwin - Mean and actually good.
Ed Harris - Rude and arrogant.

Plot?

Real Estate salesman selling real estate.
Someone breaks in to the office and steals the leads.
That's about it.

However, the tagline is "A movie for anyone that works for a living",and it's just that.

Situations you will recognise, lifestyles you know...everything rings true in this movie.
Jack Lemmon died last week, and if you need any proof that this guy was a genius, watch this movie and be amazed.

It is recognised as a movie with one of the highest amounts of swearing in history - but for a reason.
These are men under pressure, in a macho world, each trying to out-do each other and that makes people angry, tense and blustery.

If you have never seen this, you need to.
Forget Tomb Raider, forget American Beauty.
If you want to see what life is like, upclose and gritty, rent this tonight or buy it on video for £5.

Spacey is pitiful, then nasty, then hated...he does well in this, but every single actor holds his own.
Even Alec Baldwin is good, which should tell you something.

"My name? F**k you, that's my name. Why? Because you drove here tonight in a Hyundai, and I drove here in an $80,000 BMW. This watch costs more than your house. THAT'S my name"

At last I've found someone who has seen this film. It is one of my all time favourite films. It is just so funny.

And I'd like to correct you.

F**k you, that's my name. You know why? Because you drove a hyundai here tonight, I drove $80,000 BMW. THAT'S my name. And your name is your wanting. You can't play in the man's game, you can't close them. Then go home and tell your wife your troubles.

The watch part comes later and it's actually, "You see this watch. You see this watch. This watch cost more than your CAR. I made 970,000 dollars last year, how much you make. You see pal, that's who I am and you're nothing.

Wow, I managed to get through that without swearing. Well, once.

Anyway, how Jack Lemon wasn't nominated for an oscar in this, I'll never know. Al Pacino was, but he was also nominated for Scent of a Woman so he went in for that. Al Pacino is still fantastic but the highlight of the film is Jack Lemmon. He is utterly flawless.

I know the entire script basically off by heart that's how many times I've seen it. I've got in on video and DVD but DO NOT buy it on DVD. There are no extras and the picture and sound are equal to VHS. No better. And I'm not kidding. It's the truth. Get the video.

Put that coffee down. Your name's Levine? You call yourself a salesman you son of a b**ch!

Watch this and then realise where the character Gill from the Simpsons comes from. Watch it anyway as it is a top, top film. It gets shown on Film Four every now and then if you subscribe to it.

Failing that, buy it now before too many people realise how good it is and the price goes up to £17.99
