This message board doesn't allow for spaces to create a diagram of the current setup, so I'll have to describe the problem...

At the moment, I have 2 computers downstairs, with a hub, and one long wire coming upstairs to this computer. I'm about to connect 2 new computers, both of which have to be upstairs, and don't really want to have to run 2 more long pieces of wire up from the hub.

My question is this: ~How would Igo about daisy-chaining hubs (rj45), so I could buy another one and put it up here, then have one wire linking the 2 hubs. My current one (Kingston EtheRx Soho) has no "out" socket, and I know that this can be done with crossover cables, but I'm not familiar with the exact wiring.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah, I did, but it's too much hassle/money when we've already got a standard ethernet installed. Also needed to be able to add other people's PCs easily when they came around for LAN parties, which meant having some spare rj45 sockets.

should be fun!! Pity I'm a couple of hundred miles away!! Unless you can allow your LAN to connect a cable modem!

Unless your hubs support linking, but it didn't sound like it without an I/O port!!

I thik this will be a much harder problem than just setting up a link between the two hubs, as the packets need to be duplicated if you want them all to be able to play games against each other. What is essentially involved is havingtwo seperate networks which are then connected togetjer, but you would have to set up a Bridge, Router or Switch device to dublicate the packets between the two hubs, I think 2 cables will be a much easier option!!
