If anyone has read the latest issue of SFX magazine, then they will of seen the interview with Anthony Head who reveals not only the much mentioned animated Buffy series is a definate go, but that Joss Wheadon has confirmed a further spin-off for Ant`s own character of Giles. This latter one to be set in England and possibly called "Ripper", but this title is yet to be decided upon.

Now i know i rant on about the virtues of Star Trek and its various incarnations, but is there a time when it has to be said "no more!", is Wheadon in danger of spoiling the excellent record of high standards with this announcement?.

I just hope it does not go too far, for alas the producers of Trek do not seem to care anymore, for their latest series will backstep to a time before even Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Called simply "Enterprise", it will be set at a time when warp travel is still new, and transporters just invented. I wept when i read about it, well - not really, but you get my point!

Why spend three series and nearly 21 years with the Next Gen, DS9 and Voyager crews just to go back to basics and start from scratch again!

As for Buffy`s spin-off`s, at least Angel makes the grade and has at least kept ties with its parent show with the inevitable cross-over shows that crop up from season to season, as well as the odd reference to each other in their own shows. Its clear that unless the other spin-off`s are written and produced by Wheadon then it will become open season on the Buffy licence.

I find Buffy really good fun, but i hope that should these new spin-off`s not be recieved well then the makers should see sense and leave a winning formula alone.

Here you go...

I grabbed this at Lycos...

LONDON (Reuters) - The BBC is to make a spin-off series of the cult U.S. TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", a newspaper has reported.

The BBC is planning a series provisionally called "The Watcher" featuring the British actor Anthony Stewart Head who plays librarian Rupert Giles in the popular U.S. show, the Observer said.

The Twentieth Century Fox-made series, which stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, has been a ratings hit both sides of the Atlantic with its story lines of the teenage "Buffy" battling the forces of evil under the guidance of Giles.

The last series, the fifth, ended with the death of Buffy, but more episodes are planned.

The BBC project is being developed with the creator of the original "Buffy" show, Joss Whedon, the paper said.

"Joss has pitched it as a slightly more adult show," Head was quoted in the Observer as saying.

"After Buffy died, I asked him whether there was much more for me to do and he said 'Look, you know, this show is not called The Watcher, it is about Buffy but how would you feel if there was a show called The Watcher and we made it in Britain'.

"I will still be playing Giles. But there will not necessarily be so many vampires around."

"Buffy" has already spawned one successful spin-off in the shape of "Angel", starring actor David Boreanaz.

Simple, i missed them due to work!!!! Plus, at the time i was sort of videoless, the machine busted but has since been replaced.

Now because BBC have done a "back to the start" trick, looks like i`ll either have to buy the videos or wait for it to come around again.

BORGDRONE how come you dont know how they defeated Adam? As BBC has shown all of season 4 and its the 2nd to last episode of Season 4 where they defeat Adam.

BBC has started to show repeats of Season 1 of Buffy and then after that Season 5 will come into it. Dawn is in it right at the end of episode 1 and you find out who Dawn is in episode 5. Glory you meet her in episode 5 but dont know what she is untill later on in the Season.

Season 5 is great and so is Season 2 of Angel.

Anybody else like Charmed, Roswell, Friends and Dark Angel?

Thats not exactly giving the best impression is it? Have you seen the film? its awful!!!
The series didn`t exactly jump-start right after the film either, there was a sizable gap between both.
Talking of quality, lets hope neither Angel nor Buffy ever heads back to the same lows as the the movie.

Having only terrestrial TV, i have yet to sample the joys of newer Buffy/Angel episodes, mainly thanks to the inept programme scheduling of the BBC (They do the same thing to Trek as well - how many of you notice we seem to have jumped a couple of seasons on DS9 and Voyager, and Buffy has gone BACK in time!!!) so the events your referring to have yet to happen for me (if at all, thanks BBC!). But i do look forward to forthcoming stories like how they defeat Adam, who is Dawn and what the hell is Glory all about...

Thats retorical by the way - don`t spoil it for me!

Good news about all these Spin-offs. I know that Giles is hardly appearing in Season 6 of Buffy as he wants to spend time with his family.

Angel is a great spin-off and can easily match Buffy in quality. For Season 3 of Angel and Season 6 of Buffy I doubt there will be any crossovers hardly at all. Because Buffy and Angel are on different channels in America so this can create a problem. I know that Joss wanted to make Season 2 of Angel and Season 5 of Buffy with very few crossovers as possiable.

Anybody else shocked at Season 5 ending for Buffy. I do know what happens at the beginning of Season 6, so at least iam not worrying what will hapen.
