FM Profile:
The 'classic' hardcore gamer, FM spends his life playing games, debating games, testing games, but most of all, enjoying games. His mercurial gaming reactions and lightning thought processes are legend, even when playing on a ZX81. Thought to be on the Bill Gates payroll, but this is as yet unconfirmed.
Bio:
Born. Midwife noticed FM's gaming abilities from the start. When the doctor slapped him to assist his breathing, FM struck back with an explosive roundhouse kick combined with a 'Enchant' spell. He also complained to his mother that she'd had him a little late, and that he'd missed England winning the World Cup by a few months.
His parents noted his penchant for fluffy toys resembling hedgehogs, his love for the colour gray and black. First word spoken: "Sega". (Not "gaga" as some reports would have it.)
Moved to Germany where his father was based in the British Army. His local primary school ran a Rent-a-Pet scheme, and his favourite pet was, of course, Sonicstein der Hedgehoggerfluffen.
First gaming console acquired, Pong on the Atari home console. He defeated this within a week, and discovered his true vocation in life. Began to hang out in arcades and develop his gaming skills on Space Invaders, X-Wing, Asteroids, etc...
ZX80A microprocessor was inserted into the ZX81 home computer, and FM washed cars for a week to raise the £40 needed to buy one. Developed his BASIC programming skills, bought a 16k RAM pack, and failed 9 of his 12 O Levels because he spent more time programming games than studying Biology, Latin, German, History, English Literature, Religious Studies, Music, and Geography.
Acquired the ZX Spectrum 16k, complete with dead skin keyboard. No longer would he have to use blu-tac to stick the 16k RAM pak to the back of a ZX81.
Bought a NES and a Megadrive. Developed his love for RPG's by playing Rings of Power and Phantasy Star on the Sega Megadrive, and developed a hatred for all things Ninty buy buying a SNES and not finding any good games for it.
Developed a hatred for hand held consoles by acquiring a Sega GameGear, and wondering what all the fuss was about.
Acquired his first PC, a Dell 486SX 16HMz with 40Mb hard disc. Started to gain knowledge of DOS 5.0, Windows 3.11, DOS 6.0, Microsoft BASIC etc...
Acquired Sega-CD addon for Megadrive, thrilled to the release of Wiz 'n' Liz, one of the all time classic games, but became disillusioned with Sega after the CD-X debacle.
Did a crash course 1 year A-level in Computer Science.
Crunch time: Saturn or PSX? Took a risk, he also had the option of an Amiga CD-32, but went with Sony. Converted overnight by the joys of TOCA, FIFA 96, Tomb Raider et. al. Became a father, noted that his daughter's first words were "Crash Bandicot", and was proud as punch.
Started to become involved in online gaming with the explosion of the Internet. Honed his gaming skills on MicroMachines, Duke Nukem, Tomb Raider II, Colin McRae etc.
Played Final Fantasy VII for the first time, played it solid for 4 months without sleep, and became a huge Square Soft fan. Suikoden, Vandal Hearts, Resident Evil, and a few others soon followed. Acquired a Sega Saturn to see what all the fuss was about, and sold it again within a month after playing Panzer Dragoon.
Final Fantasy VIII acquired. FM was not seen again for months. Search parties were formed, but to no avail. He emerged again from his bedroom in September of that year, after 6 months of totally immersive gameplay, and made a bacon sandwich. Bought Metal Gear Solid and dissappeared again for a few more months.
Crunch time again: Dreamcast, N64 or PS2? Decided to give each a playtest, and was instantly converted back to SEGA because of it's retro appeal. Made his first post in the FOG entitled "WTF is Grix Thraves?" and was welcomed with open arms by everyone except Sniper. Read a few books on poetry, and annoyed everyone at Christmas time with his 'Dear Stan' ripoff.
Started playing Planetarion, a browser based game on the internet, and wondered how he got addicted so badly. Claimed 'Skies of Arcadia' as his most recent GAD win, and discovered the best RPG ever, even considered changing his nick to 'Vyse the Hero' then thought better of it. Considers this game, above all, to represent what gaming is all about.
Acquired an X-Box. Instantly all memories of previous games were deleted from his mind, as he thrilled to the delights of NASCAR Heat, Tony Hawks Pro Boarder 2, Shrek, and Halo.
Underwent analysis due to his behavioural problem with all things Ninty. Having a psychoanalyst called Mario didn't help. No cure was found. Acquired a GameCube and used it as an ashtray out of spite.
Holographic projection technology was developed by Professor Venom PhD at Exeter University, and gaming was once again revolutionised. FM could be seen playing Command and Conquer on his back lawn, Resident Evil in his house, and Star Wars Episode III Who Let the Darth Out everywhere else.
VR becomes actual reality. Sega reenter the gaming market with their Sega Headon, the worlds most popular 3oz headset. FM finally wins Planetarion by becoming a member of the Fury Alliance and shutting down everyone's account but his own.
Microsoft dominate the gaming industry. Bill Gates acquires a 90% shareholding in Nintendo and shuts them down, limiting their activities to drain pipe cleaning and pest extermination. NintendoRod Limited are now run from their HQ on a trading estate in Skegness.
Final Fantasy XXII is released, and FM goes missing for the remainder of his natural life.
