I have recently watched the DVD demo disc from PSW magazine and it shows quite a few games that were on display at E3 - The ones in particular that caught my attention were the up and coming titles from Rockstar, which are Grand Theft Auto 3, State of Emergancy, Smugglers Run 2 and Max Payne.
All these games look amazing and I am sure that they will play just as well but do you think the developers have perhaps gone a bit too far?? I couldnt care less about the content but others may disagree. There is no doubt that these games will get anything other than an 18 certificate, with maybe the exception of Smugglers Run 2. Look at what is involved in each of these games - Dealing with drugs, going on a killing spree, murdering for the fun of it, a huge array of guns, beating people to a pulp even law enforcement, breaking the law, stealing and running from the cops and tons and tons of blood!!
Is this just a step too far?? With all the controversy about the original GTA games what are the chances of number three even getting a release?? State of Emergancy, as good as it looks is even worse the GTA3!!
I, as much as anyone cannot wait for these games but do you think - Gaming gone a bit too far?? Do you reckon they will be banned completly or just toned down a bit?? I cant really see any problem with Max Payne apart from the fact it is one of the most realistic looking games ever which may or may not cause a great uproar!!

Thats what I think. The authorities, however, don't, and think that playing on a violent game will influence you and you might do it in real life. This is what happened with the 'own face' feature in PD, so it got trashed.

I don't realy think any of these games go too far, and I'm not saying that because I even like violent games ! To me if a game is good then its content doesn't matter too much e.g Extermination is a bit violent but I didnt buy it , and never have bought any game, because I knew that. I bought it because of the gameplay. Grand Theft Auto 3 and State Of Emergency may be violent but they aren't real......because in real life I think acting as a violent rioter or an armed criminal tends to end with being dragged from the crowd by a bunch of riot police or saying goodbye to your front door as armed police stomr into your house.

In video games there are not always consequences to your actions but I think most gamers undestand the real world works differently !

Yeah these games do look great.
I don't think that they will be banned. Ok so people say that violent games cause people to be violent, ok maybe some people are like this but I personally think the opposite. I think that most games offer people an experience that you don't get to do/see everyday. They can releive a bit of stress. Games aren't sick messages telling people what to do, give these games an 18 rating and let the adult gamers have fun. Ok some children might get their hands on them and might give them the wrong idea but thats the parents fault for letting them have it or not paying enough interest to what their child does.

The graphics in games is nowhere near that of a DVD movie, yet you can still see people getting shot, killed, blown to pieces. So why should it be different for games, just because we have control over what the person does, that sound stupid to me. If the child or gamer is going to take the wrong idea from the game then they shouldn't be playing it in the first place. All games should be released. Its up to us afterall if we want to buy it or not.
