Well I'll be off to get my Gameboy Advance tomorrow and I'm guessing plenty of others will be doing the same :-)

I can't wait to get my hands on it ;-) Especially after handling the little console and the games all week at work, getting them distributed to all the shops ;-))

This new handheld has a lot of potential though and in my opinion Nintendo have really done something help they're Gamecube sales when it is released in the not too distant future. Afterall, one console that has always sold well through the years no matter what else comes out is the trusty little Gameboy. The reputation of this little console has now no doubt helped the new Gameboy Advance judging by the amount of reservations I've been seeing and hearing about :-)

Besides its obvious superior power to the old Gameboy and the great games that are going to be out and coming out in the future for this little console, I think it holds a lot of potential and Nintendo have come up with great ideas to make this handheld a great success. For a start Nintendo have taken Sony's direction and made the Gameboy Advance backwards compatable so theres no need to worry about a lack of games to play with all the great games on the shelves for the old Gameboy. The 4 player games are sounding like great fun and then of course there is the potential that comes from connecting this little beauty to a Gamecube.

When Sega released the Dreamcast, they also introduced their Visual memory units which I thought were an excellent little idea. Now it seems Nintendo have taken this idea and improved it, taking it another step forward. The first idea being that Gamecube owners will be able to use their Gameboy Advance as a controller ! Then come the possibilities using the Gameboy screen. Straight away this improves on Sega's little memory card by having a bigger screen and of course more power to use. Besides the things we've seen such as formation changes in football games, statistics and damage areas on vehicles and characters, there are even more things we can look forward to seeing in future Gamecube titles using the Gameboy Advance.

Things such as using the little screen as a rear view mirror on a racing game without having to switch views on the main tv screen. Maybe in games such as Rogue Squadron 2 it could act as a radar showing you the positions of enemies and allies around you. Yet another idea could come with a flight sim style game such as something like a World War 2 theme. If you were controlling a bomber plane the Gameboy screen could act as a camera angle showing the ground below so you can time your bomb drops onto targets while still being able to see ahead in the cockpit view on the normal screen. Of course WW2 isn't everyones cup of tea, I'm just using that particular theme as an example ;-)

I think this potential will help Nintendo to shift even more Gamecube's because people that will be picking a console to buy and already own the new Gameboy will see this chance to make more of their little handheld an interesting prospect. Its not as though the Gameboy Advance will just be a £90 controller either because it is such a great stand alone console with all the quality games that are going to be available for it. I for one can't wait to be in possession of one tomorrow ! :-)

With ideas like this and the quality games that follow them, Nintendo can look forward to a very healthy future indeed !

Everyone knows and wants the Gameboy advance, but only a select few hardcore gamers (few compared with the total amount of games players anyway...) know about the Gamecube.

Now Nintendo have the chance to indoctrinate many of the owners of the handheld Snes by putting in Gamecube adverts in every game.

Example: In an RPG, the Hero goes into the shop and plays on a PS2 saying that it's not bad. He finds a Gamecube and says that it's the best thing ever...

You know, something like that.

It's the cheapest, sneakiest and most effective way to advertise. It's the one marketing option that SOny doesn't have.
