I imagine that Sega will be so succesful in the software market, they will neither want nor need to return to the hardware market.
Oh and I'm not entirely sure that the Dreamcast is capable of rotting, but I don't own one so I couldn't say for certain.
If they do rot then that is probably partly responsible for the console's downfall. :-)
