[DVD Boxset] House Season 2

Some of you may recall my season 1 review of Dr. House and the medical exploits he undertakes. I really enjoyed season 1 and I was down the shops buying the 2nd season before the 1st was over.

For those of you who are unaware, the show bases around Hugh Laurie who is a diagnostician expert and will only deal with interesting cases that normally, no one else can figure out. Along with his handpicked group of doctors they see the weird and wonderful and have to delve deep into the patient’s lives to find out what could have cause the strange illness that has brought them to the hospital.

The plot is simple enough, but each individual episode or case becomes very detailed. You find yourself engrossed in the patient history and trying to diagnose them yourself. I find myself thinking back to see something they might have missed and trying to beat the medical team to it (sad I know, but keeps me happy!). The nice addition to this second season is that there is a lot more background story. In the 1st season you could have watched them in any order and got by, now you learn a lot more about Dr. House and his history with workers in the hospital and the people who work around him. Relationships and feelings develop and the background plot becomes another tie that hooks you into this fantastic drama.

I would assume anyone interested in the 2nd season was a fan of the first, well in my opinion this 2nd takes everything you love from the first, adds some better plots, involves some more interesting characters to mix things up and my favourite addition is the humour. While the first had its moments from Hugh Laurie, the 2nd season just takes it to a new level. It is very dark, but then with the characteristics and history of House, you start to understand the way he thinks and why he is the emotionally distant person we have come to love.

The whole cast do their part, from Wilson becoming a much closer part of House’s life and almost disagreeing with everything House decides to do – to the ever prying Dr. Cameron who shows a slight love interest in him. Everything comes together to provide an enjoyable show. Most people will find something in the show that they enjoy, even if you have no interest in the medical side you may still find yourself intrigued by the relationships, the patients or even the mystery side of it.

The only thing I can pull from the show to add in a negative for me is that after seeing a lot of episodes that are similar for 90%, things may become tedious to some people and you may lose interest. I personally really like all sides to the show and became hooked on the background story along with each episodes individual spin and mystery.

For fans of season 1 this is a must, if you are new to House then go back and see the first, at at £15 new you will be hard pushed to find a better drama!
