We like our cheap films here at Special Reserve, and some of them have the most awesome descriptions Ive ever seen. Check these out:

FELONS DVD (CERT 18). THRILLER. All is well at a barbecue until a guest seduces the host's wife and kills the next door neighbour.

But apart from that, all is well.

BIKINI SKI SCHOOL DVD (CERT 18). ADULT, 85 MINS, STARRING: TOM CHAISE, T CHALLICE, SUE MOSLEY, DIANE HALL, DIRECTED BY: MARC GREENBERG. When Bobby returns home to help save the family marina from bankruptcy he is immediately thrust into a sizzling confrontation with a sleazy banker. With the aid of a bevy of bikini clad beauties he confronts the banker by challenging him to a water ski race.

No description needed.

Isn't it strange, somethings seem to gain from being translated into English, such as Monkey - where it became more mystical, being set in a foriegn land, while others lose their charm.

Crouching Tiger is a good example of something that has partly been a success because it was such a good story, and partly because of the trend in oriental films at the moment. I'd like to watch it in its original language to get the full experience of the film though, which is where DVD fits in to the equation.

The oriental theme continues with such programmes as Bonzai, which is a big hit over here, especially now it's being shown on 'normal' tv. It is very 'silly' in the same way as those Japanese endurance shows that are shown all the time over there, but at the same time there is something entertaining and even addictive about it.

Personally, I like to experience as many different cultures and views as possible to fully understand them without bias, but sometimes it's difficult not to laugh at what other people find entertaining.

I used to wake up every Saturday morning and watch 'Paranda'. Now I'm not racist and don't want to offend anyone, but there was definitely something lost in the translation. It was like it was done by Russ Abbott as C'U Jimmy.

Once again, no offence. Not racist.

i think that most of the funniest film descriptions come from the Hindi films that are shown on terrestrial TV. The stories are too stupid to be taken seroiusly.
One I remember had my family in fits of giggles reading it it was something like (I cant remember for sure)

After witnessing her husband being killed, a woman goes on a journey to find her husbands killer and falls in love with the killers brother!

It was something absolutely stupid like that. The frightening thing is that the Indian people find it very serious. I am half indian and when I go to see my nanna or my Aunties and Uncles they have these films on and take themn seriously when they are singing and hiding behind trees and then popping out from behind them. If you have sky and you have people over and you want to get everyone to laugh, put on some of these asain films because you will justy cry with laughter at them they are so funny!

There's a Steve Guttenburg film where a dog rides a dolphin. The posters had the worst mockup of dog-on-dolphin that I've ever seen...

...not that I've seen many dogs on dolphins
