In my opinion the console has shown some of the best and most innovative games ever and there are definitely some games that will always be remembered!
>>>Here is my N64 'Ultimate Collection'!<<<
1 - Super Mario 64. What a game... graphically, it may begin to pale in comparison to some of the latest PS2 and Dreamcast titles but Mario 64 has got to be the best Nintendo 64 game ever... Purely because it's Mario? Maybe, but you can see the 'moto-magic' and pure genius behind the game, the storyline and the way the whole game works!
2 - Perfect Dark. I know this game didn't go down well with everyone, BUT if you take the multiplayer alone you've got one hell of a game and to add to that a solo game, co-op and even counter-op! The game had too many weapons, too much detail and too much class not to be good... and hey, like the old saying goes... "It's Rare!"
3 - Super SMASH Bros. Quite a wierd fighting game, and even I was completely dumbfounded when I first played it but after the 15 minute learning curve and conjouring up a devious strategy to blast Pikachu into space, a great fighter is revealed, and what better way to get your own back on Pika that to obliterate him with your favourite Ninty character... lets hope Conker's in Melee!
4 - Mario Party. Ah, I remember when a party used to be a reserved event, one where people would converse about matters like hunting, shooting and bathing. Not anymore sister! Mario Party was Mad!... and although the general gameboard gameplay was quite slow the mini-game action was frantic! And still packs a punch to this very day!
5 - Goldeneye 007. How do you describe such a ground breaking game?! Perhaps THE N64 multiplayer game of its lifetime, and although it has been succeeded by Perfect Dark and TWINE, do I think it's been beaten?! Hell no, it's still one of the best Multiplayers and the missions are still fun to-date! Ever tried blowing Natalya up as high as the tree tops?!... Go for it!
6 - Mario Kart. Ah, the remake of THE best SNES game ever, Mario Kart 64 was and still is a hit! Indescribable 4-Player action, great replayability and all the fun of a Mario Title! I was one of the few people who preferred Mario Kart 64 to its predecessor... I saw the graphics as better, the power-sliding more effective and the characters packed full of character! Maybe that's just me... either way, the game was AMAZING!
7 - Mario Tennis. Maybe an odd choice for some but it was Nintendo's answer to Virtua Tennis and in most peoples opinion, it was just as good. The gameplay was simple... easy to learn, hard to master and always fun. The characters were plenty and the modes of play were smashing... it really was quite good! Best N64 Sports Game? Not if our next game has anything to do with it...!
8 - Mario Golf. Four!.... player action and lots of sun, probably only let down by the slow gameplay and blocky graphics and character models! I love this game and even though it is quite prone to providing samey gameplay and boring quickly, it is always a good thing to have incase a few mates crash round and Mario Party is a bit too much... And hey, just like Mario Tennis, the game stays VERY close to the games rules and provides quality gaming whilst doing so!
9 - Conker's Bad Fur Day. Probably the *&%£$!est, %$!*£$est, coolest game ever! Maybe not one to buy but definitely one to play so it has to go in the collection. With the N64's departure from the gaming world imminent, Rare took one last shot and the console and went out with a bang... another bang, a clang, some fire and a very drunk squirrel! Quality gameplay, packed with humor, fun all the way through... what more could you want... (A longer game)... maybe so but with a longer storyline, people might have been too suck of toilet jokes... 'Encore' I say!
10 - Banjo Zaxooie/Tooie. Yay, the bear and bird duo! I love these two, their adventures may be 'kiddie' but the gameplay was immense and it was a real head-scrather... more so Tooie and Kazooie! Both were great and by the time Rare had finished BT, they'd just about mastered N64 development, it's a shame the Gamecube is coming in a way... On second thoughts... *Slap!*
Well, there we go... most genres included, most, if not all games by Nintendo and Rare, but why not?! Their games were and still are outstanding and they have definitely raised the benchmark for games development!
I can only see success in Nintendo's future. With Sega bringing their best titles and Dragon Warrior all but announced by Enix, the Gamecube and Nintendo Co. Ltd, look set for success!
Thanks for reading...
Game
(Part 2: Playstation - Next Time!)
Mario 64 – The most groundbreaking N64 game, and Mario's first 3D adventure. The game may now look less impressive than it did when released however it’s still just as much fun to play. The game has the best design I’ve ever seen in a videogame, and with a near perfect learning curve this is surely a game every N64 owner should have.
Goldeneye – The best first person shooter, well at least in my opinion. This is Bond at his best, this game is simply superb. This game not only has a superb single player mode, but the multiplayer game is out of this world. Another must have game.
Perfect Dark – Builds on Goldeneye’s perfect gameplay and adds that little bit extra. This game has everything Goldeneye had and lots more, more gadgets, more weapons, and two modes for each of those weapons. This game is perfection itself, taking full advantage of the N64s HiRes expansion pack the graphics are probably the best seen on the N64. A game worth every penny, and with a great multiplayer mode too.
MarioKart 64 – Superb fun although I’d have to disagree with The Game, the SNES version was better. Although both games are great, the SNES version was more fun when playing with only two players, the N64 version was really designed to be a four player racing game. However that opinion aside this racer is one of the best racing games available on any format. The only other N64 racers that come close are Diddy Kong Racing and the newly released Disney game Mickeys Speedway USA which are also great games.
Conkers Bad Fur Day – The first platform game for a mature audience has to get a mention. Take control of Conker the Squirrel as you fart, urinate and drink your way to the top. Pooh mountain, Flowers with ample assets and well endowed Boilers make this game a joy to play.
Zelda – Both the original Zelda, and it N64 sequel (Majoras Mask) are a joy to play with graphics that wouldn’t look out of place on a Playstation2. The real beauty of these games though is apparent when you start playing, these games are not only immense fun to play but they’re massive. I’ve only recently completed the Zelda’s first N64 outing and so it’ll probably be a while yet before I complete Majora’s Mask.
Lylat Wars – This game has to get a mention because its one of the few N64 flying shooters that brings arcade quality shooting action to your home. Its getting on in years now though, so perhaps one of the new StarWars games such as Battle for Naboo would be a better purchase, although I haven’t played any of the StarWars games so I cant give a personal recommendation ..However Battle for Naboo has had favourable reviews from the press.
The World is Not Enough – The game of the Bond film, and what a game. Bond has never looked better than he does in this game. The multiplayer game isn’t as good as in Goldeneye, however the single player game is far more polished. If walking around one of London’s underground stations with big guns appeals to you then this is the game to own.
(No, I'm not a Star Wars buff. It was just a great game.)
> Nope, I dont understand what I meant there either.
Good coz I am clueless Macca.
Anyway Perfect Dark i the best game ever im my opinion. It done so much cool stuff. The enimies had voices and talked, the missions were well thought out. The challanges and the combat simulator was mind blowing because there was to many options. Its all good.
To tell you the truth I like I loads because seeing the character reload the gun is so cool. I like the shotgun being reloaded, i think its class.
Playstation and Microsoft are gonna get ROASTED!
