I want to upgrade my computer. I want to keep my tower, my hard drive, my CDRW drive and my DVDROM drice, my graphics card, etc. However, I want to get myself a new processor (and therefore a new motherboard that'll take it)

I ain't got a lot of dosh at the moment so I'm on a budget, and have spotted a pair which I think should be compatable. I want to know if they are and if they're any good:

Processor:

Motherboard:

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=1448479355&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=54267

Also, am I likely to face any problems when upgrading, such as an incompatability with Windows XP H.E. due to it being the 32-bit version?

If so I'll pick u the free trial version of Windows XP 64 Professional Edition.

If anyone has any better reccomendations (as in better processors/motherboards for same/similar price) please let me know.

Cheers.

Just because the processor is 64 bit doesnt mean it can't run a 32 bit operating system, it just means it isnt making full use of the hardware.
It's like having 1 gig of ram, and playing a game with the maximum requirements of 512mb of ram. It's not going to fail to work because you have too much ram, chances are it just won't use the extra available.

Cheers.

That's what I thought, but my "PC knowhow" younger brother seemed to think otherwise.

How about the motherboard and processor, are they any good? Or are there better ones for the price out there?

For that price range you're not going to get better.

But are they any good?

Obviously I know they're not the latest models, but would you say they're decent?

The CPU is good. There's not much difference between that one and a £250 1mb cache version.

As far as the motherboard goes I'd personally go for http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=1455537357&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=54503

It's a couple of quid more for the nForce3.

EDIT: Wrong link.

Although as it turns out, that's an nForce 3 150.

Cheers - that one from Simply Computers looks the best to me (for someone who only knows the basics as far as hardware is concerned anyway)

:D

What are Simply Computers like to order from?

My mate recommended them to me and they seemed ok when I used them.

Have you found a fan for the CPU yet? They seem to be very rare at the minute.
