I have to admit that I am a big Sony follower and have enjoyed years of gaming courtesy of their PSONE. When I first heard about the PS2, I went and pre ordered it and purchased it on launch day excited by the prospect of gaming on a system that is almost 5 times as powerful as it's predecessor. However, when I played it for the first time, I was extreamelly dissapointed with the quality of games, as most of them were unoriginal and mostly sequels. However, the likes of SSX and Timesplitters were great PS2 games, but we were all waiting for the fantastic month of March, where Sony promised they were going to push the PS2 to new heights with the likes of GT3, Project Eden and even Metal Gear Solid 2. But what happened? they all got delayed for more than 4 months and as a PS2 owner, I have to admit that since March the PS2 has only had 3 or 4 decent titles and that Sony are not giving the PS2 a retail push, even though XBOX and Gamecube are coming out this November in the US.
I also feel that Sony's rivals may have the upperhand, as they have many original titles coming to their consoles where as most of the PS2 games I am looking forward to are mainly sequels. But still there might be a glimer of hope for the PS2, because I was looking at coverage of the E3 games show where I suprisingly saw some original and great looking titles coming to the PS2, mainly Jax and Daxter, ICO and Maximo. However, even though Im highly anticipting the release of these games this Christmas, we must be cautious as we have seen hugely hyped games been delayed and mostly being rubbish - mainly refering to The Bouncer.
I just hope that Sony get their act together and make sure that all those great games they have promised come out soon and are actually "good." However, I must admit that Sony have done something right, and that is the development of an online PS2 environment, which was showcased at E3. Newertheless, the games that go online mainly matter, and I am pleased that the developers of Tony Hawks 3, Final Fantasy 11 and GT Online are making use of this fantastic development, as I feel that consoles have what it takes to compete online with PC gamers and that this in it's own right, will give devlopers new and original ideas about how this hardware can be used to make some unique and amazing games.
