Yes that's right, the open open beta for Tribes Vengeance starts sometime this evening or tommorow morning (5pm somewhere in America but I don't know where), and you will be able to download the client from somewhere in Fileplanet, most likely here, http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/144920.shtml , assuming they don't swap any URLs around.
I got my hands on a copy of the closed beta about a week ago but it's an old version so haven't been able to get online with it yet. But from what I can tell it's basically Tribes 2 with less complications. I can't see it being as good to be honest, unless they really fiddle about with things between now and its release but we'll see.
They've been running the closed open-beta (ie they let FP release the beta but only for subscribers, thus making their open beta rather effectively closed) for a week now so you'll probably get owned to start with, though as it doesn't seem half as complicated as T2, it should be easier to get into. Just it probably means it won't hold interest for as long but I hope I'm wrong about that.

Edit: FP's released it but there's a 45minute queue, you can what I'm hoping is the same version here though, but you'll need to get a key from FP to be able to play it. It's 459mb. www.5assedmonkey.com/Files/tribesv_mpbeta_en.exe

Sounds like they've tried to simplify it to appeal to more people. I'll have to try it myself, hopefully download it tommorrow. I saw a short viedeo in this months PCG, and honestly it looked like UT2004 but with different vehicles and jetpacks. So long as it's fun I don't see a problem, though I just hope it's not too similar to Unreal.

Now that I've played it a bit with other people, if you think UT + Jetpacks then you're not far off. I think it's based on the UT2k4 engine but with some heavily modified physics. The maps are now a fair bit smaller and they've made the out-of-bounds grid solid so you can't pass through it. The vehicles just spawn at various intervals rather than having to use a Vpad to order what you want. Every armour class is now limited to only 3 weapons and you spawn in medium with the disc launcher, chaingun and a shotgun thing.
The inventory stations seem to have gone a step backwards, because now you have to select what loadout you want whilst on them but it combines a favourites system so it doesn't take too long. Though I preferred T2 style.

The gameplay's a lot more confusing and death matchy now, presumably they're trying to get away from the amount of team co-ordination that was needed in T2.
I can't see it being as good as T2 to be honest, it is good fun but I've been playing T2 ever since it came out in 2001 and haven't got bored yet, but TV seems so much more simple, I don't imagine it'll hold interest for as long.

Liked Tribes 2 (a vastly underrated game by many people) so will certainly be trying to get a hold of this, though may have to wait until tomorrow since this MOH: PA demo is taking a bloomin age to download.
