I felt it was time to bring up a discussion felt it was time to bring up a discussion on the way girls are presented in films. Most films set girls as the gorgeous looking ones who end up falling in love with the lead male and are simply there to look nice. Although I must say I’m a fan of girls looking nice I believe films should start giving females lead roles. Some great films have had women as lead roles. Take the successful “Alien” Series for example and the recent television adaptation of “Charlies Angels”. Both films have been very successful and deserve lots of praise. Why can’t more films follow these examples? I’m tired of watching Arnold Schwarzenegger again and again and again grabbing two Uzi’s and mowing down an entire room of people. Although great fun to watch I must say I’d like to see for once an original film where a good actress empties an entire clip into a league of enemies. The Matrix rocked. I was extremely happy to see a female getting some of the action for once, sexist comments like in True Lies where Jamie Lee Curtis drops a gun and kills a few guards although hilarious I must say was slightly on the sexist side.

I’m not number one campaigner for women rights, girl power etc. but I would really like to see more films where girls have more of the action instead of being pretty dumb blondes and brunettes who just want to share a kiss with the main roles. If we live in such an equal society it’s time films started showing this. Give us more heroines rather than heroes. Girls can be just as good as boys at stuff. Stuff traditions let some bloke fall in love with the heroine and live happier ever after it’s time for a change!

Hopefully Lara Croft’s upcoming adventure will be a great success and filmmakers will recognise this is a gap in the market and that it’s time to give females their moments!

I feel know we are in an era of FULL ON girl power in the movies. as you have alredy Mentioned Charlies Angels and Tombraider. After all wouldn't us men prefer to see All action leather clad super women rather than sweet and inocent litle heroins? (I would)

yes I know I said that but most directors will say action film! Lets get Arnie or something. The only thing we see girls in films (normally) is in romances etc..
