Geometry Wars Evolved should come with a warning. It's a bit like being hit in the face by a fireworks display, but one that doesn't hurt. Hang on, that didn't make sense. Right, imagine Crystal Quest (another Live Arcade favourite) but 1000 times brighter, faster and altogether more satisfying.

But I’m hoping that this is a sign of things to come. Xbox Live Arcade is getting better and if Microsoft see it working well they’ll want to push even bigger and better games on it. It’s the first step to on-demand console game downloads. Lumines Live is coming soon, Street Fighter II is around the corner and there are loads of other games scheduled. I hope that when the camera arrives they’ll be some games which use that. Free eyetoy-style games, no need to pay for extra ones, just for extra levels if you like the game.

It would be nice to think that Sony learn from it as well (keen as they are on using everyone else’s ideas) as, despite being a rival platform, it’s good to get a general trend going across all three platforms (the Wii already promises downloads of older games and much more) The PS2 online hub was a bit crap as far as organisation or features, so I’ll wait with interest to see what the PS3 brings.

Then all we need to do is pray that BT get their act together and keep coming up with faster Broadband access (preferably without excluding half the country in the process) and we might see the ability to download all our future games direct to console.
