NINTENDO-GAME & WATCH:
Well first of all we go right back to the wonderswan which was released before I was born and I think it was in 1980 called Game & Watch. It had games as such as Manhole, Oil Panic, Donkey kong and I think a Zelda game.
NINTENDO-GAMEBOY CLASSIC:
Now stepping back into my generation, Next must be the Gameboy, the original one released back in the good old days in 1989, it was the first cartridge based handheld ever and a tremendous breakthrough in gaming history for Nintendo if you ask me. It had hugely popular games that spread worldwide, like Tetris and Mario and it still has games made for it to be compatible with today like the huge Pokemon franchise, Zelda!
Also it had new gadgets made for it like a link cable allowing Past Nintendoids to play side by side or at each others throats, more modern pheripherals like the overhead magnifying light etc. Are still available today.
ATARI-LYNX:
Not so bigger company after Nintendo became such a hit, and then in the eighties they tried to make a comback but their planu backfired, with their 16bit hand held called the LynX.
It started off quite well impressing most people with its colours and visulas, but didn't do so well on release in 1990, since it had cr@p games and was £180 which is more expensive than the N64 ever was.
NEC-TURBO EXPRESS:
This here handheld was released also in 1990 this one now used an 8bit PC engine and used carts.
It was released with some good, games and reasonably good graphics, but was sadly never released over seas but costed a whopping £250!
SEGA-GAMEGEAR:
Another for the year 1990 a great year for successful and not so successful handhelds.
This was Sega's 8bit handheld, and had loads of Master System games made playabel for the GameGear, but it was back lit and eat batteries for breakfast, 11's, brunch, lunch, tea and supper!
But was sadly aborted after a few years since it wasn't that bigger hit!
NINTENDO-GAMEBOY COLOR:
Back to the masters Nintendo with one of the best selling and most popular handhelds ever, and most of us still play and use it, its the GameBoy Colour, released in 1998!
It had great new titles which are still being released and played now, as I type, and being backwards compatible with all of your favourite GameBoy Games and producing them in beautiful colour!
Some fo its best: the Zelda series altogether 9 titles for NINTENDO and about 5 or maybe more for the GameBoy, Pokemon, Super Mario, Rayman, Harvest Moon 2 and plenty more!
NEO GEO-NEO GEO POKET:
Another one that wasn't officially released over here and another 1998 handheld, it was very well designed and was 16bit but it had to compete with Nintendo's GameBoy Color released the same year.
NINTENDO-GAMEBOY ADVANCE:
Only 7 days left until it is released in UK although the Americans and Japanese already have theirs safely in their back pocket, well not in USA or it would be in a pickpockets hands or on the floor as it dropped outta yer back pocket.
32bit as powerful as Sony's pitiful PSX, four player with only one cart and in full color.
It will be a huge hit with games scuh as Tony Hawks, Rayman, Mario Kart, GT Advance and probably a new Zelda and Pokemon game.
It will have about 15 hours of play from 2 AA batteries and will have some great and useful pheripherals like the Pokemon card scanner.
Also backwards compatible again!
This is a mini history on handhelds and I can't wait to see what comes after the GBA!

> Game Gear not a hit, haha everyone played "colour" sonic
> and all the others and We even had an adapter to play master system
> games on it. top stuff. Pengo is wicked.
Watch out for the snow bees!
Pengo is a classic, still got it on the gamegear, along with many others. It's amazing how many Gamegear games my local shop sells, all really cheap.
Mind you, if you've got the money, get a GBA. You hands will love you for the rest of your life...
So you think the playstation is in black and white or somthing??
Heh, not a very nice thing to say.
I too can not wait to see what comes after the GBA, maybe Game Boy Insane which is 128 bit? Who knows...
