Nothing wrong with this at all, it's just the lengths some commercials go to to prove that they are 'politically correct'. That means that every advert must contain a fat, black woman with glasses that has a convict for a gay son (exaggeration slightly I know). Halifax, insurance adverts but to name a few.
But are we as a society getting to the point that being politically correctness is politically incorrect?
A disabled man tried to sue a building firm once because he couldn't get the job because of his disability. He complained it was discrimination, but fact was that he was physically unable to do the job, thus preventing him from the job.
I don't see why some jobs or firms require a certain number of women positions or 'coloured' positions, when each person should get the job on the specifications required. If this is 50 gay men or a variety of people then fine.
The government requires a certain number of women MPs. Why?? For what reason? They should have any equal right to get any number of positions, and if none are elected then so be it. People complain that women don't get enough high job placements, but has anyone ever stopped and turned around and said, hey maybe they don;t want them?
When you turn off your PCs tonight and take a look at what's on TV, you will spot numbers of adverts that contain 'politically correct' messages , and how stupid they really seem. Anything you see now is politically correct: Tesco announced, Ginger bread 'people', as opposed to ginger bread men!!
Who would be offended by that? What is going on here?
I am in no way stating anything discriminative or racist, I just think that this is a major point that should be addresssed.
But there are times when PC has run amok. (See my Fat People Are Angry post).
I saw in the news about a month ago a disabled group trying to sue the army for not allowing disabled people to serve in the front line.
And the army guy said, with refreshing honesty "Oh for pity's sake, what do we say? Excuse me enemy soldier, could you stop firing at us for a moment, we need to unload the wheelchairs from the helicopter."
A perfect example of minority groups not thinking logically.
And before anyone starts on me, I am the least bigoted and biased person you will find.
I think it's good to discriminate with good reason, like you said, for the disabled job. A prime example comes from this very forum, with newbies, regulars, and... us.
You will usually find that most newbies are dreadful topic starters, and which is why they are discrimated against, and with good reason. Time is a good teacher, and it's good to see that newbies CAN actually make some great topics, well done Mr Neil.
