Its sad, but when this scheme started it was actually worth going in for, since a new game or DVD can be expensive. I thought it would be an excellent reward system for loyal members. But as it has rolled on it is becoming clear that the stat system is generating a certain "elite" group who keep winning all the while. Now i don`t blame the winners, and i myself although having not yet won still hope to do so, but i think the vetting system used by Special Reserve when choosing the winners is letting too many favorite names slip by with alarming frequency.
About 65% of the entries raised by the 6 most popular winners are little more than pithy remarks and sideswipes, with little or no bearing on the original topic.
To change this, i think there should be a rotational stat system and it should work as follows: Each day, the first ten Gameaday entries pulled from the system will be graded 1 to 10 in order of content from which 1 winner is picked, this would then be repeated for Filmaday, after which those ten entries would then slip to the bottom of the list to be replaced on next day`s draw, and slowly they would work back up to the top again in the future. Rotating the winner will ensure fairness and will allow everyone to truely expect a win with the better odds of 1 in ten instead of 1 in whatever it is now!.
Unless something is done, i may not be the last person who notices the "fave" list and ask for something to be done about it.
Yes, you might say i`m whinging because i`ve yet to win or that my postings thus far have not been good enough, but they are only deemed good or bad by the people who decide on the winners and my entries won`t win me anything if the Reserve guys decide to stick to favorites.
All i ask is for some action on this issue before the system gets too badly corrupted!.

Well, it seems like you won and I couldn't be happier for you (yes, I know sarcasm is the lowest form of humour). I have enough faith in the judgement of the Special Reserve team so assume that they actually enjoyed your review and didn't just give you a prize to shut up your moaning.

Personally, I think that if someone posts the best review or discussion topic seven days in a row then they should win seven days in a row! The only requirement is that they have written the best post, regardless of whether they are a newbie or a notable. Positive discrimination is just as bad as negative discrimination -I would hate to think that I had won just because a regular user had been over-looked for winning too often. Your claim that 'nothing could be fairer' than pushing winners to the bottom of a list is ridiculous (I hope that if you win again in the next 10 days you will refuse the prize).

If your only reason for coming here is to win free games/DVDs then you shouldn't bother. I think the people who win tend to be the ones who have a genuine passion for the topic they are writing about and enjoy the discussions here.

Personally, I visit this forum because a) none of my friends have an interest in film so this is the only way I can speak to like-minded people; and b) there don't seem to be many idiots here leaving spam messages (unlike most newsgroups)!

The filmaday prize is a great addition to the forum and helps to improve the quality of writing. Rather than moaning about not winning you should be grateful that Special Reserve even bothers giving away a prize -no other forum I have been to gives them.

So you want to know if regulars think they win too much?

Yeah, that'll happen. "Excuse me,but I seem to have won too many times, please, take it back"

*cough*

Not too sure about that.
And I don't believe there is any bias, the best post wins.
It may not be the best post to you or me, but we don't choose.

Sure, I've seen the occasional win and thought "that sucked!", but it's not my decision and I just post anyhoo.

But, those that may win a couple of times fairly close together....they then have a while before they get chosen again, that would be unfair if the same person picked up 3-4 wins in a week or two.

Unless it was me, that would be different.

The latter half i agree with totally, i said my postings may not have been up to the mark, but Football???

hmmm, not convinced by this. But then i hate Football. I personally feel some of the bigger clubs are fixing matches to stay in the Premier League and the money. But thats another story.

Maybe you should have used Cricket as an example... (HaHa!!!)

Seriously, do any regulars feel that their names come up too much, or do you think its about right?. Are you worried that others may get disillusioned by seeing the same old names keep appearing instead of their own, and not bother to use the service again...?

Of course, i may just be worrying over nothing, and a free game or film is winging its way to me as i write!!!

As pb put it, it's the best post that wins.

What can be fairer than that?

In football, do they all take turns at winning games? No the best team wins.

To be the man, you've got to beat the man, so if you want a free game, or DVD simply post better reviews, or better discussion points.

Look, the idea is that the best post of the day wins. The best post is obviously the post that the person picking it considers the 'best' of that day. If the same people keep winning, then perhaps it's because of their writing style.

If you're not going to use paragraphs or spell check then there is less likelyhood of you winning. However, everyone has the chance and it should hopefully improve everyone's English skills as they try to write more intelligent and clear posts (myself included)

I agree though that more people should be picked and there are plenty of posts where I think newer people should have won, and others where it's been dubious why people did win, but you need to write at least 10-20 good topics or replies before you stand a chance of getting the formula right.

Which is fairer? Rewarding people for worse quality posts because they haven't won before, or rewarding the same people when they post good (or the best) quality posts that day?

I'm not saying it about me, personally I've been suprised at a lot of my wins, but that's another story, I'm talking about the whole of the entrants on these forums.

I dont think that's exactly true.

If you check the winners recently, they've been newbies and (newer) regulars.

The same old story applies, post because you want to, not because you want to win.

Sorry to trot out the same old line but it is the best way to use these forums.

This isnt a pop at you at all.
