His debut album in 1993, 'Grace', was a premonition of the talent this was would achieve later in his life. Full of melancholic, untamed symphonies like 'Mojo Pin' and 'Eternal Life' display beautiful qualities of his angelic 'choir boy' voice , crossed with the melodic calm rock sound. The title track 'Grace' is a master piece by any standard and I can never seem to grow tired of the album at all.
Tragically though, the Buckley's legacy was not to be fullfilled, as during the period he was recording for his second album 'My Sweetheart the Drunk', he died on May 29th 1997. In the early months of the next year, it was decided by his mother that the album should go ahead, using the pieces Jeff had wrote, although most unfinished, accompanied by later recording sessions with the band. The album 'Sketches for: My Sweetheart the Drunk', was released.
The people closest to Jeff described him as a musically ambitious man who loved life. Music for him was for pure joy, and
'Though the sadness of his death will never fade, his joy will still come through.' - Bill Flanagen.
