This Friday:
Call of Duty: United Offensive - an expansion pack that may very well restore my faith in expansion packs, the demo is awesome showcasing a level of extreme excitement and tension as you battle against huge waves of German infantry and Armour, hopefully the rest of the expansion has even better missions to offer (I’m really looking forward to Kursk, biggest tank battle in WWII) while an brand new multiplayer mode with new drivable vehicles should please fans of the multiplayer aspect of the gamer. And it’s an expansion, so it won’t cost as much as a full priced game, super.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - again the demo was good, nothing there however that really strikes out though I’ve only played one race on one level, and that was pretty good to begin with. The universe the Game workshop board games have set themselves around have always been interesting, and that seems to translate well into the game, though I’m more looking forward to the huge, carnage ridden battles that’ll be on offer. It’s also been a while since I’ve played a really good RTS.
Then onto Next Friday:
Rome: Total War - the Half-Life 2 of strategy games for me, I’ve been looking forward to this one for a very long time. There’s some confusion as to the release though, it’s out this week in America, and Creative Assembly have said that they hope to get the game released in Europe this Friday but have been slowed down due to some European Union certification thing. Bleedin Foreigners ;P. Either way I hope it’s worth the wait, the demo was painfully easy but I’m expecting good things from the final game, and I can’t wait for those castle sieges.
Evil Genius - or Dungeon Keeper 3: The James Bond edition. Essentially a god type management game where you control an evil Bond Villain and have to build up an underground secret base, pleasing your minions by committing many devious acts that will in turn cheese off the worlds governments, who’ll often send spies out to stop you. Add plenty of humour, a catchy theme song and the ability to build your own Bond villain base including traps for any would be Bond type secret agents and you’ve got quite an enjoyable looking game.
All this and news that Valve have finally submitted Half-Life 2 to their publishers, the last stage to it going gold which means that November release is looking even more likely as the days progress, which all adds to a busy few months for PC Games. Owning a console as well I can look forward to the imminent release of GTA: San Andreas, even though I was going to wait for that to come out on the PC, the more I see of it the more I want it sooner.
