OK, think about this, all the current consoles (Dreamcast, Playstation 2, and soon to be X Box, and GC) are still classed as "next generation consoles", don't you think that it's about time that we start calling them "current generation consoles" and calling the likes of the PSone "last generation"?
Whether we like it or not, I think it's fair to say that the PSone has had it's day, and that production should stop. COME ON!, did we see Super Nintendos being sold after the release of the Playstation, NO!, we didn't! Well maybe for a short while, but not for a huge amount of time. I know you're probably saying to yourselves "well i still like the PSone" and that's fair enough, but it's just too old! A console that is still readily available 6 years after it's release, is a disgrace!, yet consoles like the Dreamcast are being scraped.
We must start moving on, making room for these new consoles, and start realising that we are in a new, and fabulous generation of games consoles.

The PSX, N64 has had its time in the spotlight nearly 6 years each. and the PS2 and DC is no longer a Next gen only future consoles are actually net-gen if you think about it!

In another 6 years time, there'll probably be new consoles coming out, which will most likely be:

PS3
Xbox2
GC2

These will then be regarded as the next generation consoles.

traditionally next gen consoles are the ones that are just comming out. For example, 6 years ago the next gen consoles were the PSX and N64 and Saturn. Now the next gen consoles are the GC/PS2/DC/Xbox.

It's just one of those things!

The PSOne is still on sale because not everyone can afford a PS2. OK, so the PS2 is backward compatible, but still costs £300 while the PSOne is now about £50-£60. The PSOne is also more portable now. It is not in competition with hand held consoles, but it now has the added capability of being played on a train or in the car etc (as far as I know, there are going to be battery packs to enable this, so this fact is sketchy).

Because they are the next wave of consoles from the major respected companies, the Xbox is just called that because it is coming out at the same time and is more advanced than the N64, PS and DC but us basically a 1st Gen console!!
