I've decided that I don't.
When would I ever get the chance to play on it? It's a portable gaming machine, and I pretty much drive every where I go, so I can't play whilst travelling, and when I get there, I'm busy anyway!
The only reason I might want one is for when I'm away on training courses, but that's not enough of a reason to justify the cost of one, plus games.
So before you splash out £100+ think about it. When would you play it? Would you rather play it than a dedicated games machine? At £30 a game, it's not a cheap alternative, is it?
What is appealing though, somewhat strangely, is the games.
Why is it that an inferior machine is producing the titles that people really want to play?
There has been so much talk of going back to the days of SNES style gaming, as that's the benchmark that the GBA is after, but aren't we just seeing SNES gaming through rose coloured glasses? Is it really as good as we remember?
I remember going back to the original ISS after playing the N64 version. It was so slow and basic by comparison.
So what is it the GBA has to offer? Are todays games really not appeal, so we want to go back to the type of games we were playing 8 years ago?
I don't I want something innovative!
There is one reason why I might get a GBA, despite all I've said though. That is that I am fickle.
Okay, there is another reason, it's because it can link up with the GAMECUBE. Exact details of what this will entail are sketchy at best. If it's simply a case of building up your characters whilst on the move, then I'm not interested. If, however, you can do something special with the GBA, such as use it as an in game radar, use it to access menus, or if the games link in more ways, such as sharing objects to reach secret areas, then it ight just be worth getting.
Anyway, back to the subject, you mentioned how the N64 ISS was slow compared to newer technology.
Well, the Snes was different because instead of simply being inferior by less power, it lacked the ability to do proper 3D.
Snes was the height of 2D games, games like no others today.
And despite Nintendo churning out 10 year old titles at 35 pounds a time, it's only a matter of time before the create a TRUE sequel to Super Mario World!

Heh, and I bought one in October to prove my point.
My early favourite was the Game Gear (I don't and never have had a Gameboy). Now to be I loved to take it out with me whether it be in the car or to school :) it was fun to play a game anywhere you went and sometimes I like to sit in the living room and play it infront of the Tv (hey i'm a multitask person).
So to get to the point... when I first heard about the GBA I was not really that excited, Wal a Gamrboy 2 I thought at first but when I saw the spec I was cool this is well more 'advanced' than anything before it so I have been saving my pennies so I can get one before my hols so I can play computer games on holiday which are not the dodgy pub arcade ones that you get at your hotel in Spain!
So yes I like portable gaming (I think that was the argument anyway, hayfever is confusing me)
Cheers
I'm a Ninty!
I dont have to pay for the first 3 games or the machine.
I hate long car drives.
I hate having to wait inbetween fencing bouts at compettions.
It hooks up to the GC.
It is backwards compatitble.
I want one
I wnat one
I want one!
Snakes on mobile phones is very popular to mobile phone users and to me that’s just because there is nothing better to do on the train (or wherever) so you just find yourself playing snakes. Mobility is good for when you are on the move, which is why gameboy is the best liked by people.
I think that hand held computers are always going to be loved by people because of the ability to be played anywhere and everywhere! Millions will love the Game Boy Advance, not just because it’s a hand held, but because it has wonderful graphics!
Okay so the graphics are not as good as the PS2’s but does anyone actually expect a handheld console to be able to? I certainly don’t. I am sure that with the GBA, we will see game companies going back to the good old days and trying to bring back the true brilliance of gameplay, which is thought of (by some) more important than graphics.
We can now say goodbye to the Gameboy, many off us with a tear in our eye, and welcome the new hand held on the block. Game Boy Advance will have the same BIT as the PSX and anyone who has seen the screen that it has to offer will know how good the graphics are. I think that the graphics are even slightly better than the SNES’s.
With handhelds it’s not just about how good the graphics are though, it is about how addictive the game is. Take snakes for example, very basic graphics but it is still loved across the world. I think that it has the ability to be suitable for all ages, and also loved by all ages.
At the end of the day, you get home and it’s the main computer that you would want to play on. You don’t want to be stuck on the gameboy when you have a Playstation2, Dreamcast or a PC waiting to be played on do you?
Hopefully we will be able to see handhelds that will compete with the likes of PS2. The big thing holding back the handheld computers is the LCD. It is a little on the small side, and when a screen is small, you can’t really get an atmosphere.
Also, the sound quality isn’t as good as on a Television. Of course it has improved over the years, but I still think there is lots of room for improvement.
The other thing that is looking good for Game Boy Advance is the ability to hook up with the 128 Gamecube should be very good! So there we have it people, the computer that fits into your hands and you can take it wherever you want. I warn you though, soon as you pick one up, you won’t want to put it back down!
Now, when you ask the question “Do I need one”, the answer is no, I do not *need* it, but I would love to be able to experience playing one, and hopefully to own one. I often travel great distances by car, so having a GBA would be a god blessing for me!
At the end of the rainbow, if you want something that will keep you busy, make you happy, entertain you, have fun, and most of all, play some true quality games (the ones we got to play on the SNES) then I think that the GBA will suit you down to the ground.
