I am an UNFORTUNATE owner of a PS2. Quite frankly i'm disappointed. For £300 its not worth it. I was promised great games a few months after the release date, where are they? "They have a few bugs and we want to straighten them out" That has been the exuse for most of the "good games" failure to even come close to deadlines for the past 3 months. I own every nintendo console known to man, and I don't know why I bought a PS2. Perhaps because I couldn't wait until gamecube came along i guess. But the people at sony have made a fool out of all PS2 owners, it has poor games none of the graphics I have seen have been any different to dreamcast (except metal gear, but thats not due out until 3001 the way things are going) But when I think of what nintendo has delivered with colour game boy and nintendo 64, it really does show that they rely on the things that make a great game: GAMEPLAY. So as of now I am back on the side of nintendo! I pre-ordered my GBA from the basildon branch yesterday and i alos had a play of it, i can hardly wait. I'm more exited about it that I was about PS2.

Fair enough, we are all entitled to our own views. The PS2 does have some good games lined up, but it doesn't have any turely great games at the moment. Personally I thought timesplitters was BAD. Its hardly believeable that this was made by the same team that worked on perfect dark. Perfect dark was no masterpiece, but it was sure better than timesplitters. The awful thing is I got it for christmas and by 7:00 I had completed it on easy and normal. A BIG let down. You don't complete a game on easy and normal on the day you get it, if I hadn't of been in wales at the time I would've taken it back. When GT3 come out and metal gear solid 2 and the rest of the games we were promised would be out already, when they come out I'm sure the PS2 will do okay, but only ever okay unfortuantly. This just goes to show, launch games can makee or break a console, and sony knows that PS2 was a flop. This is why there is ALREADY rumours of PS3 to keep up with x-box, which is rumoured to have a severe shortage of games and gamecube. When I heard the rumours of PS3 I felt like a right mug, a few 6 months of owning PS2 and they're talking about a new one because PS2 was a flop. Even thoguh the magazines are saying PS2s games were good at launch, SSX and Timesplitters, why are these good? HYPE, the same reason PS2 is supposedly good. If somthing is hyped enough then people will buy it, its sad but true. And when the hype dies down people feel like complete mugs, like I do now really...

When gamecube is released in the first quater of 2002, it will have more dominance over the console market than PS2 does now. This will be because of nintendos drive to be the best, not like sony when they KNOW they are selling the concole because of hype. PS2 made the whole gaming industry look highly un-proffesional. Its not that I don't like PS2, its just it could have been handled so different. What with all the media hype, everyone on the planet knew about PS2, and this was becuase of their pre-order scheme and purposely under producing units.

I am also a PS2 owner, but I am not disappointed. I only have four games, but to be honest, I love all four of them. These games are:
Timesplitters
Dead or Alive 2
Tiger Woods
ISS

I am very happy with these, and will keep me occupied until games like GT3 and Red Faction. Not everyone may like them, and if you ask me, there are other good games out at the moment, like Extermination, which has just been released, and is absolutely brilliant.

The PS2 has had a bumpy start, and has had a distinct lack of superb games, but the developers are now just getting used to the PS2 hardware, so more superb games shall be making it's way to the PS2.

I stand by the PS2 all the way.

PS: Your lucky you didn't post this in the PS2 forum, otherwise you'd have loadsa people breathing down your neck.

yes to that guy down below I'm a sony fan but I'm not gona bash out.

I've had my PS2 since december and still haven't really seen what it can do,Looking at new games like devil may cry and Gran Turismo 3 you can clearly see what it's capable of and with the net and hard drive coming soon it's gona be great,I wouldn't have sold my dreamcast if the ps2 didn't live up to the hype.

I've never really liked the N64 but the gamecube looks like a real winner, I like the discs.

There were some good games promised such as Unreal Tornament and Gran Turismo 3 quite soon into the realese date too. But What actually happened was these turned out to be rather poor or put back several months. I have never had this experiance with nintendo though. I know that games sony or nintendo have nothing to do with the progress that a game is made at but I think the main problem is that PS2 is too hard to program for and if I had of known this before I bought it, then I would not of bought it because of the lack of games. And the reason I bought PS2 was because I loved my PS1 (before n64) and I liked the games it had, i thought they had resonable graphics at the time and great gameplay. So with this in mind I bought a PS2 expecting the same.... ....I was horribly dissapointed. So perhaps I did buy it for the hype just a bit, but it was mostly for Sonys past reputation which is now ruined thanks to PS2s in-ability to perform.

And I'm glad some people are happy with their PS2s but thats a small majority, most think its a waste of money and have either sold thiers or like me left it to gather dust. And you're right sniper, i will be torn to shreads if a sony fan reads this.

There's a lesson to be learnt here:

Don't believe the hype.

It appears to me (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that GBARules bought a PS2 because of the hype.

If he'd have looked into exactly what games were going to be released, then he may have realised that it wasn't actually the console for him.

I'm not saying that the PS2 is a bad console, not by any means, just that it might not appeal to everyone. £300 is an expensive mistake, but some people are saying that it's the best £300 they've spent in ages, so good for them.

There's plenty of information out there, and if you see whats coming out on the PS2 as being the games you want to play then go ahead, buy one. But don't just buy one because everyone's talking about it.
