So when I worked for Game, I paid a £5 deposit following a leaflet advertising, "free Xbox, PC or PS2 Battlefront game when you put a £5 deposit and purchase the Star Wars Trilogy box set"

So today I pop in. One of my old colleagues who did the same said, "The leaflet did say that didn't it!" but also informed me that he was refused sale and got his fiver back.

I marched over to my old manager, who was actually talking to his regional manager, and said, "hey, I want my fiver back. I've just been told you wont let me have my free game!"

He claimed I must've read the leaflet wrong, however, he was the one who took my pre-order in the first place.

Instead I purchased the DVD elsewhere and shall be writing a nasty letter to Game's head office naming all parties involved and asking what they're going to do about it. I shall wait til I get a response before I buy Battlefront. And shall also threaten to report them to trading standards.

It was to be my last purchase from that particular store anyway. And will only purchase from Game if from the other store I worked at where I know the staff aren't BS'ers...however with Special Reserve and other companies which I wont advertise being more reliable and cheaper, it's not likely to happen often anyway.

I look forward to their response.

I detailed the facts, so there is no confusion as to what happened. That is, there wont be unless the person reading gets confused over words with more than on syllable. (sp?)

How did you manage to write a 3 page letter on this subject. 3 pages! SERIOUSLY?

I doubt I'd get much compensation from being refused a free game I was entitled to.

The free game would satisfy me.

If you dont get any luck with writing to them, write to the Judge in the sunday mail, she seems to get things to work out. Lotsa compensation too.

Heh - the thing is, a staff member still working there was sure of the offer too, as he confirmed on the day I popped in. I bet he'd change his story if his job was threatened, and I wouldn't blame him over a £30/40 game.

Not to mention I was a staff member at the time and know how to read a leaflet with less words than a Spot the Dog book printed upon it.

I'm interested to see how this develops. I will be contacting Trading Standards and possibly Watchdog and the local one, The Ferret should I not get a satisfactory response.

Maybe Watchdog would be interested - the comedy potential is limitless.

Nothing surprises me with Game, the only time I ever use them these days is if I have a £5 rewards voucher to use and even then I usually give it to a mate or my girlfriend.

Have you still got the leaflet as proof?

Without that you're pretty much going to lose.

I've already had my fiver back...but there's petrol costs for the wasted journey, and parking. So depending on how they respond, I may be taking them to Trading Standards for breach of a contract.

You just know they're going to refund you, and possibly give you other worthless pap to soothe your pain.
