The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
(longer than my stats suggest - before the 'edit your details' thing came into operation made a new account for a new name, but that's beside the point)
at the start FOG was a great place to be, always with great discussions, interesting regulars with interesting things to say and there was little gameaday greed as nobody had ever set the precedent of winning twice (regulars had all won and didn't really mind the people who came, won an left). As some of you may notice, my visits are often infrequent and patchy (pc trouble), but maybe this makes the changes happening more obvious to me than you.
Sure, for a while it was great and everyone was happy. But things started to change.
People winning multiple gameaday's (not necessarily a bad thing in itself) caused a lot of competetiveness, a couple of things turned ugly and regulars got (understandably) upset at the newbies, because of how many came, won, left.
People ran out of new things to say. Newbies have always ranted about 'console wars' and how their machine is better than everyone else's, but while regulars were putting quality up, it was easy enough to ignore the trash.
But there are less and less new and interesting things these days, most of it now seems to be about 'console wars' still or about (ironically) originality in games, and everything else has lost it's edge.
Maybe it's just me, perhaps it's time to move on, but I don't think I'm the only one who's seen this.
'This forum is dead' (sorry, I forget who it's by) acknowledges the visible effects of the problem, and Tony's complaining about the amount of trash that clogs up the FOG Prime now there's so little to say. In the old days nobody used to drift to the sport and music forums, which are now flowing healthily, and there was so little mindless babble.
Perhaps there is hope. Maybe the Gamecube and X-Box can shake things up a bit, provide something to talk about. But I can't help the only thing they'll inspire is stuff like 'X-Box, Gamecube or PS2 - Which will win?' or 'The X-Box is rubbish'.
In time we'll see. Just so long as there's anything to keep us here.
You are right, when the GAMECUBE and the X-Box come out, this will spice up or discussions because, well, there will be something different to talk about. Also, we have spaceworld to look forward to, and we will get to hear more information about the new Mario game for the GAMECUBE.
Don’t worry, I am sure the forums will go back to normal again very soon. Once the newcomers settle down and get used to everything to do with the site, it will be very good because we will have new peoples opinions on subjects.
