Why did Microsoft never think to allow people to surf the web on their Xbox?

SEGA did is, and okay it didn't turn out too well but that was about 4 years ago and they're not Microsoft. Microsoft are Big.

I think MS should allow the next Xbox to surf the net, they could also make it connect with Xbox Live so that you could be on MSN and Xbox Live at the same time.

Thoughts?

How would you play Live and surf the net at the same time?

If people had most of the functionality of a computer from an Xbox, then they would be less likely to buy a computer, which means less likely to buy Windows. Windows is what makes Microsoft stupid amounts of money after all, they want to protect that.

Yeh, the TV resolution was a huge problem for the DC online.

Anyway, my PC sits 3 feet away from my xbox so I care not.

It doesn't bother me really. I can live with or without.

And - hurrah - my live is going to be fixed next weekend.

Probably because it was such a flop on the Dreamcast, not worth the risk yet in my view.

It defeats the point of the console.

The Xbox is designed for gaming.

Gaming being the key point here.

What would be the point though? Just so you could surf the net from your tv instead of a PC monitor?
