I don't know if anyone here is in athletics but I'm looking to get into it and at a charity afternoon recently I ran 15 laps of the field (about 17km) in 1 hour 2 minutes. I need to know how decent a starting base that is for me to start training up from, whether that's quite a decent time or absolutely pathetic.

Marathon runners do 26 miles in about 2 hours 10 minutes which is an average speed of about 12.5mph so if you can get near to that for a sustained period of time and distance I'd say you're doing well.
Im in an Athletics club, but I do sprint and haven't got a clue about long distance.
Never mind.
Well it's just over 10mph average speed so I'd say it's good going.
