Right, so far I've nabbed 1000+ songs through myTunes, which is an excellent program. The downside is that it's limited to people sharing through iTunes, and nothing more. Are there programs such as Sharescan that search over the network, and present you with a P2P-type GUI? Sharescan doesn't want to work for me, for some reason.

Where I am we've just got a dc++ hub set up in the halls and everyone uses that who wishes to share stuff, although I know people have been using mytunes. DC++ makes the most sense I feel, especially if people are willing to share stuff.
